This is a lovely old country inn, right next to the Exeter Chiefs rugby ground. We have stayed here a couple of times, when visiting friends and have been very happy. The rooms that we stayed in are a converted stable block(I think) separate from the main building, so they are nice and quiet. They are fitted out to a... More

A beautiful day for riding our motorbikes had me showing my girlfriend some of the local roads. Very cold and hungry by lunch time we headed for the Blue Ball Inn. Made very welcome in our leathers, something that is missing more often than you think. We settled on the Roast Beef. Fabulously prepared, perfectly cooked everything. Couldn't fault it.... More

Great semi rural location. Traditional bar/flag floor open roaring inglenook fire. Great atmosphere. Food is amazing and well above normal pub grub standards. Menu kept to right size and always specials I had the coarse pork pate which I'm told is made on site, then the curry of the day which was lamb and clearly made properly not sauce tipped... More

We went on a Friday evening and it was quite busy when we arrived. Although we had booked, the lady behind the bar could find no record of it. However, a few minutes later she came to say she had found the booking - sighs of relief all round! There was a good choice of food, both on the regular... More

As a family of 6 we visited for Sunday lunch. 3 of us had traditional Sunday roast and 3 had variety of different dishes. All excellent and plenty on our plates. Pudding was good too! The pub was warm and welcoming and would certainly return.

Thankyou to all of the Blue Ball staff who made our stay very enjoyable. The rooms were very comfortable and the beer and food plentiful and filling. The hotels position is perfect as a base to see rugby at Exeters Sandy Park and easy to get back to the M5 for the journey home.

Ideal location for Sandy Park Lovely pub Staff pleasant, polite and efficient Good real ale Food excellent Accommodation fine apart from the condition of the en-suite facilities - need updating and a good clean with some bleach. Extractor fan insufficient and the en-suite was extremely cold even with the heated towel rail on

Called in for lunch and ordered real ale, superb, well kept. Good selection on the menu and I ordered ham, eggs and chips, my wife had the Thai fish cakes and coconut sauce with rice. Both were very good, proper cut ham, TWO fresh eggs and superb chunky chips. Fish cakes and sauce also very good. Quick service, clean cutlery,... More

We used to be very regular customers here but we now only manage to come a few times a year. Unfortunately, our latest visit was probably the worst to date. We ate as a family of 6, hadn't booked but for a weekday evening it wasn't busy and we had choice of a few tables. The few staff in sight... More

The food is good, possibly a bit too salty. The serving staff are friendly and helpful. The ambience is pleasant. We ordered at 7.30 pm and we were warned that there would be a delay due to a big group (although I think it was group of 6 which isn't terribly big). The starter came at 8.05 and the main... More
