If you have a car, you need to drive into Duke Street and will enter the hotel from the back. We stayed one night and were offered the 4-poster front bedroom on arrival, which has beautiful traditional furniture, in keeping with the age of the building, but has a modern shower ensuite and flat screen tv on the wall. The... More

The Recorder House was the first stop on a meander through Shropshire/Herefordshire and, wíthout question, the best breakfast of them all, including those served at much more expensive hotels. Nice position, friendly and obliging hosts, a view over the river and free parking. What more could you want?

Lovely old Hotel - we recently stayed here in August 2013 and stayed in the Virgo room with river view - beautiful!! Only negative would be that it is a bit creeky (the bed) and the floorboards - but it is a very old hotel, so understandable. The owners were very nice and friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was... More

Stayed here 9th-11th August and had a lovely time. The host's are really friendly and welcoming and couldn't do enough for us at breakfast time, which was a cracking meal to start the day off which consists of fruit juice, fruit, yoghurt, cereal's, tea and coffee, toast, full English, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, etc etc . Our room was... More

Enjoyed our stay at this quirky guest house. The Recorder House is old and has lots of character and period features, not all of which lend themselves to great guest accommodation, though that said I think from what we saw, the guest accommodation has been fitted in as well as it could have been in a house of this age.... The owners are very hospitable and very helpful recommending local restaurants for evening meals. Chester is beautiful. I hope to return in the future and will definately... More

This is the second time that I have stayed here, both times for a school reunion. It is just a lovely place, right next to the river. The owners are very friendly and very helpful. I obviously know the area well, having been brought up here, but never lived in Chester and loved the opportunity to run round the walls... More

Stayed for two nights at The Recorder House. The location is very central with parking which is a bonus, you can just park the car and leave it as everything in the city is within walking distance. The bedroom was excellent with a four poster bed although the bathroom was a little compact, perhaps due to the age of the... More

another lovely stay at the Recorder House. Lovely comfortable rooms and excellent breakfast. Best location in Chester and it has parking, but you don't need a car as everything is easy to get to. The owners are very helpful, recommending some excellent places to eat.
