We visited for 3 nights and had such a relaxing time! The rooms were lovely, really comfortable and cosy and the garden beautiful. Service was very friendly and welcoming, Leigh and Peter were excellent hosts throughout our stay. We arrived early and had no problems dropping our bags and left late on our last day with lots of flexibility leaving bags and a late check out. Breakfast was delicious and very organised with lots of choice. The b&b is well situated with everything in easy reach - Nicole’s restaurant (over the road) was excellent and A to B cycle hire is just round the corner, they also always offer excellent service. So grateful that we could come over from Guernsey for a Sark staycation! We would highly recommend and no doubt will be back. We booked direct through Leigh’s website which was very easy and competitively priced. …
For our second visit to Sark in three years, we chose to stay at Leigh’s lovely guest house. We were on the island for a long weekend to attend a friend’s wedding, the timing of which meant that we couldn’t check-in within the indicated timeframe. However Leigh couldn’t have gone further out of her way to accommodate us arriving at an awkward time and needing to get ready for the wedding before she was ready for us. Leigh was an absolute star as a host! In my limited experience, any trip to Sark needs to be entered into with a can-do attitude and adventurous spirit. Bring them both with you and you’ll have a great time.
Amusing is the best way to put this place and the owner Leigh is what could be called eccentric. Firstly before booking this place find out what room you have. We had the "Charcoal Roses" room. It's small, this is not normally too much of a problem for us but it was on this occasion! If you get this room you had better be prepared for plenty of crouching. The roof is sloped and unless you are a very small person (below 4ft) you will have to crouch to get around the bed to move around in the room . Also its has a lovely looking bath at the end. This had a shower hose. BUT be prepared to turn and crouch at the same time so that you can get out of it or in it or if you need to move around in it as you cant stand upright (again unless you are child sized) also if you need to use the loo you had better be happy to share all of your abloutions with your partner. When you sit on the loo. You can have a nice chat with them while they are in bed next to you phewee!! On the one side the wash basin area doubles as your bedside table too. Its really not practical to stay in this room for too long. And now we get to the drama that is meal times... we didn't eat any other meal in this place due to the drama that is breakfast. Its served between 9 - 10am (which is very late) but actually it is isnt between 9- 10am! You are expected to be sat at your table at 9am so then you get served. However there is a very stressful atmosphere as you wait nearly half an hour just for coffee... I kid you not! There are 4 tables in this room (2 seats at each table 8 person max in this room!) There is also a serving table at the end of the room. This contains cereals and juice (nice) but there is no crockery on your table! The panto goes like this... sit at your table Leigh eventually comes out with a tray that contains some crockery. There is lots of backwards and forwarding for more crockery. A loaf of warm bread, knife and tea towel (so you dont touch the bread when slicing it yourself) appears on the serving table. By now everyone is hanging out in need of a drink and food so everyone yo yos up and down for the bread (there is still no signs of glasses for juice or bowls for cereal) when they eventually come out we were very relieved. (it's now 9:20) after more too-ing and fro-ing around the room, warm croissants appear, (nice) apparently they are fresh out of the oven. But by now nobody cares we just want coffee however there is still none to be seen. After more waiting Leigh comes around to ask what strength of coffee you want as she grinds it herself (like we need to delay it anymore more) eventually Leigh comes out with a single caftierre of coffee per person. (09:35!!!) Leigh then goes around the table asking for cooked breakfast order, we hear her getting miffed with those that "go off menu" This cooked breakfast comes out fairly quickly (!) it is small but it does taste good, freshly cooked apparently. (10:00am ) she asks if we want anything else. We dare not order anymore coffee as we have only 3 days in Sark and our morning has almost gone just getting breakfast. A note to Leigh... sort this out. Its breakfast! It does not need to be so fussy and disorganised. And most importantly and I really cant stress this enough.... Get the coffee out !!!! The breakfast was good but NOT good enough for me to forgive your breakfast dramas and to make me want to stay there again. When I spoke with the other guests they were not happy with this either. I gave you 2 spots review only because the breakfast was nice. …
The location is great and the breakfast was delicious though the owner needs to tell her guests what time it will be served. I would recommend providing an information sheet with helpful information inc WiFi codes, breakfast times, checkout etc. For the price paid, I would expect a little more. For example, the toilet seat was snapped, making for an uncomfortable sit! Surely this could and should have been mended. We were told we could come and go as we pleased so there would be no keys as the doors were never locked. This might have been fine as Sark is a very safe place. However, we returned later that evening planning on having a late night drink and to watch the stars and found the front door locked! Fortunately the proprietor heard us and let us in, saying, ‘oh, I always turn the key if I think everyone’s in.’ Which obviously requires weren’t! If you’re planning on locking the door, you need to tell your guests and give them a key!!! It’s been quite a while since I’ve had a curfew and I don’t need one while on holiday! …
Signs on the road advertise afternoon teas and other food, so I was looking forward to lunch or a coffee and cream tea in the lovely garden. I was disappointed to find food is only available to B&B guests and not general public. Signage needs to be updated to reflect current operation.
