This beautiful hotel in Cambridge city centre was a former University-owned building on Trumpington Street which has been transformed to enhance its many quirky architectural features.Forty one bedrooms and suites, some with private terraces, have been carved out of the former University-owned building, alongside our trademark bistro with the first Hotel du Vin open-style kitchen and curiously labyrinthine cellar bar. Dating back in part to medieval times, Hotel du Vin Cambridge boasts a cosy library, private events room perfect for special occasions, meetings and events. The bistro and bar are available for residents, locals and visitors alike at Hotel du Vin & Bistro Cambridge.

Stayed here whilst visiting a friend in the city and it was an absolute treat! My room had an enormous bath tub and huge high windows that looked out on onto the tree-lined street outside the front of the hotel. Such a present place to spend a summer evening.

Stayed just the one night in a ground floor room. Check in was welcoming and the decor is mostly smart. The bathroom is looking very tired however. In the room people were chatting outside the hotel bar in the garden area at 11.30pm while I tried to sleep. The footsteps upstairs were audible, the door in the corridor slammed, and I could hear every time someone flushed the loo upstairs. It’s an old building with single glazing. I get you can’t change everything but it is easy to put up signs or ask people to keep it quiet, put extra underlay under the flooring, put soft close on the doors, and insulate the soil pipes. The back of the door had a sign saying ‘please double lock the door when leaving’. Hard to do with an electronic key card. It is this poor attention to detail that sums up the management attitude to this place. Not worth the money to be honest.

We are regular visitors to the Hotel Du Vin chain, but we were disappointed with our stay here. The location is ideal, the bedroom/bathroom and facilities were to the usual high standards, but we were let down by the service. Although the receptionists were lovely, welcoming and efficient, the bar staff and breakfast team (same person) were not. They were slow, rude and did not operate to the high levels I associate with this quality brand. One of my guests complained about the 45mins wait to get our (first and only) drink in an empty bar and we received a curt unprofessional response, leaving us all embarrassed and uncomfortable. For breakfast, upon entering the near empty restaurant, it took 20mins for our order to be taken.

We stayed at the Hotel du Vin as part of a birthday celebration. It was our first visit to Cambridge since the early 90s and a long drive from Totnes but we were not disappointed. Staff were lovely and very friendly. We were delighted to discover that we had been upgraded to a suite which was really stylish and very comfortable. We had booked a meal at the hotel restaurant and visited their cellar bar first for an aperitif. The bar is again stylish with options for snug hideaways or a cosy lounge. The staff were really attentive and friendly and knew somehow that we were celebrating. Our cocktails (an excellent Mojito and an Aperol Spritz) were delivered to our table free of charge to celebrate our special day. Moving up to the restaurant, again staff were lovely. The food and ambience were excellent, we both chose the garlic soup followed by perfectly cooked lamb. Again, we were gives a glass of bubbly as a welcome. We chose the excellent Rioja as an accompaniment. We had planned to return to the bar to sample their excellent range of wines, spirits and cocktails but we were tired after a five hour drive, so we retired to our lovely room. Breakfast was very good and we were sorry to leave. As an aside, we were there for the Hockney exhibition at the Fitzwilliam. It was excellent and well curated. We also fulfilled a longstanding ambition to visit Kettles Yard. Thank goodness we had booked well in advance as the tour of the house is not to be missed and books up quickly. Cambridge is a delight and the Hotel du Vin a perfect place to stay. Thank you to all of the staff. We hope to return soon.
