The hotel is old and quaint. Sloping floors and creeking staircases. Very clean basic room which had everything that we needed. Plenty of hot water. Extractor didn’t work in bathroom but reported to staff so feel sure will be sorted. Wasn’t expecting breakfast but was pleasantly surprised when informed a continental breakfast was available. It catered for all likes. Hot percolated coffee. A good selection of teabags, fruit juices, cheeses, cooked meats, boiled eggs, fresh and tinned fruit, croissants, crumpets, pastries, bread and jams All the staff were polite and helpful. Reception gave us great recommendations of where to eat and short cuts to get to the centre of town. Perfect location to see all the sites.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate my special birthday. The hotel looks very good on website and pictures, but this is all deceiving. Upon check-in we were not told about breakfast times, the receptionist did not know where our superior room was, the continental breakfast was very cheap and poor quality, no key for safe available, and the balcony door was left open, so anybody would have access.... One afternoon we asked for two coffees to sit with out at the front, but they could not make that. Bar items were extremely limited and customer service were non existent. Rubbish left by us by the bin was not removed, and they could not recommend restaurants, even though their website says, "ask us for recommendations"..... In addition, the stay was expensive....

We stayed here for the Easter holiday. We decided to go on the train as we knew parking was limited. We paid £9.00 for taxi from station to the hotel. Hotel receptionists very friendly and helpful. We stayed in room 161, there was only 1 other room next to us and we were amazed that we never heard any noise whatsoever, no slamming of hotel doors which is a rarity in hotels! Our room was situated at back of hotel looking over residential buildings - it was so quite and peaceful. The bed, pillows were comfortable, the room and bathroom very clean. There were also complementary shower gels, shampoo etc. Breakfast was complementary continental. There was a good choice and plenty of coffee, tea and orange juice being constantly topped up so no issues of running out! Breakfast staff very helpful. The hotel is well located and a very short walk away from shops, restaurants etc.

This is a lovely looking hotel from the outside but rather basic and dated on the inside. My room was on the top floor with a double bed and ensuite bathroom, and all was ok. Since it is an old building it was very noisy, with a rickety old floor and creaky stairs. The price was not exactly cheap (150 quid for 2 nights) but the place was clean and a basic continental breakfast was included. The staff were a little pushy/abrupt on the front desk, but were friendly once i was friendly to them, maybe that's my British sensibilities.

this is a traditional small hotel, very well-situated if offering few frills. for me, it scored an extra point due to the helpfulness of the staff - with recommendations, and with allowing me to use the restaurant for a business video call.

I stayed 4 nights. Central city location (south) by the Scott Polar Institute. Smart, small rooms but, very clean, very hot water. Lovely continental breakfast in sub ground level room. Such friendly staff and owners in this family run hotel. Gets my vote. Thank you for my welcome and stay.
