Great experience from arrival to departure. Lovely hotel in the most amazing location. On any return trip we would definitely stay here without hesitation. Rooms are lovely and clean. The bar has a great choice and lovely cocktails.
This lovely boutique hotel has it all! The location is perfect and the service impeccable. But the decor! A multilayered and textured approach to decor paired with superb paint selections and curated art & light fittings all came together in an exquisite way! Look up, look down - everywhere you looked there was some element of interest. And the Bentley theme complete with two antique Bentleys out front added yet another bit of fun and lux. Oh, and did I mention breakfast?! Not just a buffet but table service with delicious menu choices all served in a lovely setting. I highly recommend the Gonville without reservation.
Went for my husbands 60th, Our room was above average for a hotel room plus, very comfy bed, a coffee (pod) maker (which could do with instructions as a bit complicated), Netflix on the TV. The room was a little late (15mins) but we were given a free drink at the bar to make up for our slight wait. The hotel was aware of my husbands birthday and left a card and a fruit platter which was a nice touch. The staff really couldn't have been more helpful or polite for the whole stay from the cleaners to the receptionist. I found the main areas of the hotel quite luxurious and a lovely atmosphere. The breakfast was either cooked fresh and brought to your table as well as a continental buffet selection. The hotel itself is right on the edge of the town - literally you walk across a grassed area and there it is - so very convenient. I suppose the only thing I wasn't terribly happy about was being charged a service charge for a glass of brandy in the evening - £1.80. That I found a little unnecessary. Equally charging £17 to park your car in their carpark on top of £270 again a little bit steep. However it was a lovely stay and we enjoyed it very much. Would recommend the Raja Indian restaurant - particularly nice food - as well as Free Press pub and the Elm Tree - both traditional pubs with nooks and crannies. Watch out for the bikes and E-Scooters - many of them hurtling about. …
In the 9 years since our last stay the Gonville has undergone a renovation and the interiors are now very chic and appealing, with a nice touch of luxury. We especially loved all the Cambridge themed prints on walls in the public areas. All staff we interacted with, from maid and maintenance man (coffee machine was temperamental and we called for their help) were charming and helpful. Filip on the front desk was particularly pleasant and highly professional. Our room (236), a superior room, was spacious with a superking bed. Our only quibbles were that the bed was too firm for us and the bathroom door should open the other way to avoid hurting the knees and feet of the occupant of the loo when their partner comes into the room! Breakfast was the usual buffet cold selection with table service for hot dishes. The standard fry-up was a bit tired at 9.30 on our first day but my omelette on day 2 was excellent. We didn’t dine at the hotel this time. Parking is expensive at £17 per night but par for Cambridge, and the hotel is ideally situated for walking to all sights. Prices are towards the high end but again par for Cambridge. Certainly we would return happily!…
At short notice I had to organise an afternoon tea party for a group of elderly people, several of whom are in their nineties. The management and the team of staff who looked after us were exemplary. The service and the range of food perfectly met our requirements and the costs represented extremely good value for money. We were seated in the Atrium lounge which was ideal. Thank you one and all.
This was our second stay here and we were not disappointed! The staff couldn’t do enough for us, we had incredible food in the Terrace restaurant, wonderful service, and a beautiful room. Plus a fabulous location. Absolutely fantastic, will definitely be back!
Prior to arriving after booking this hotel I tried calling the spa at the hotel for a week to book appointments for me and my daughter who I was travelling with. We never received an answer on any of our calls and on two occasions I left messages with no reply. I understand they only have one member of staff so if like me you are booking a hotel with a spa this may not be the place for you. We arrived at about 4pm in the afternoon and bearing in mind checkout is at 11am I was surprised to see so many bundles of dirty linen, dirty trays and cleaning carts blocking the hallway to my room (Room 201). The room though lovely it was on the small side with a very small window tucked into the corner. The bathroom was cramped and had a hand held shower head, only a bath, no shower. If you are over 5’6” you cannot stand up in the bath to shower as the ceiling is so low. The shampoo and shower gel was lush and smelt amazing. The towels was bright white of good quality and very fluffy. We ordered sandwiches for two and these took over 90 minutes to arrive. We may have got them quicker if there had been a member of staff answering the reception phone. I was informed that since covid they have had a staff shortage I get this but if I’m paying a hotel rate that they are charging I expect a decent level of service that unfortunately we did not receive. The bed was very comfortable it appeared to have a topper on top of the mattress which makes all the difference. It was such a shame this could have been an amazing hotel with a few changes. But our stay was not worth what we were charged.…
We’ve just returned from a wonderful first stay at the Gonville with our toddler. We stayed in a superior deluxe room which was beautiful. I really appreciated all the luxury touches and I haven’t stayed in a hotel bed as comfortable and luxurious for a long long time. They made my birthday special with a gift in the room and card, we’ll be back soon. Thank you very much.
I wondered while booking if the hotel was designed more for an older clientele than my wife and I but I was very pleased to be proved wrong on that front. The decor was lovely and the staff and service was absolutely top notch. Food was great. Absolutely loved staying there. It was a real treat.
My partner booked a surprise stay here for my birthday. It is in a perfect location, around 5 minute walk from the centre of town. We arrived to a complementary bottle of Prosecco and a birthday card, which I thought was a lovely touch. The staff were very attentive and nothing was ever too much trouble. The coffee machine with the various types of pods were delicious and topped up daily by the housekeepers (who were also fantastic!!) We had breakfast included and ordered this to our room via the ipad in our room, this was absolutely delicious! There were so many options for food and you could have as much as you liked! Absolute 10/10 experience and would recommend to anybody.
