After being unable to get a meal near our accommodation so ended up searching the town for parking. Tried to use Park & Ride bus but found it finished at 8:30. Parked near this pub/hotel and as there was nothing much else appealing went for a meal. Pub a bit dingy, food acceptable but chips were skinny fries that went...

Having stayed there on the 11 Aug 16 I was wondering why it was so cheap. Overall it was just a place to put our head down for the night. We were not looking for 5 star. On arrival found no where to park (didn't say that on this site). Not a problem as lots of places don't have car...

Hi Ekscot Thanks for taking the time to write a review. I'm glad you enjoyed you food and stay overall. You are right about the description here not mentioning the parking situation, I have submitted a change to TripAdvisor to update the listing. The cleaning firm we use are normally very good but they have been sending relief cleaners while...

No parking except on street where you have to pay. Major roadworks as building student accommodation right by pub. Very noisy during evening as had private party on. Room with paper peeling off, windows needed cleaning, I wouldn't shower as it was in need of cleaning. Ok for one night simply because the location was good 15 mins walk along...

We love the Portland Arms , its our local . They have introduced a new menu which is a generic menu for Green King and its so disappointing . We had the butternut squash wellington and the new veggie burger and both where bland with out any seasoning . With my wellington the only thing on my plate worth eating...

Hi Jo Thanks for taking the time give us your opinions. We have been trialling out the new menu as we wanted to offer a lot more choice and healthy options to go alongside regular favourites. After a two week trial we have now settled on a mix of what works well from the new menu as well as re-instating...

Hi Mel E Thanks for taking the time to write a review. I see you have titled it as 'Unprepared', is that because you expected parking or did not realise it was pub accomodation? We strive to have an accurate description and details on all the main sites including here on Tripadvisor and our offical booking sources. Can you let...

A simple place, but very clean and a very cosy staff. The rooms are part of a traditional pub so you can have a beer and a nice chat with local people. Not that far of down town. The cheapest hotel in the city, Dose no have WC or shower in the room it's a comun one.

Hi John B Thanks for your comments. I am sorry that you were not able to order food on your arrival, I can only assume it was a different member of staff who served you who was not aware of the situation and that you were staying with us. If so I am sure we would have been able to...

I booked a room for one night, a Saturday night, in May 2016. I arrived at 11 AM. I found that the Portland Arms is not a hotel; it is a pub, with 3 guest rooms upstairs. No one was there to check me in. After awhile, someone showed up who said, "I can't check you in, but I can...

Hi notbob_trip Sorry that your stay with us was not what you expected. As you say we are a pub with 3 budget letting rooms and do not profess to being a hotel. We are also widely known as being a live music venue, all of which is clearly stated in our description here on TripAdvisor and on our own...
