The Clayton Hotel is appealing in several ways. Close to the station, easy outside parking in the station car park (even for a larger van), lovely open and spacious feel to the central spaces and well decorated rooms. Great small touches like China tea cups, funky mirrors and modern leather chairs for seating. But the piece de la resistance is the bed. The biggest and most comfortable bed I’ve ever had the pleasure to sleep in. Add to that individual temperature thermostat for the room, so I can easily cool it down, and a luxurious feel to the bathroom and you have a great functional and feel good room for a very reasonable price.

We have just enjoyed a one night package that included breakfast and dinner and have come away feeling refreshed and sated. Hotel parking is absolutely fine as train station barely one minute walk away and cost just twelve pounds fifty pence for 24 hours. Paid by card hastle free. Hotel is perfectly situated to centre of Cambridge, meaning shopping and all amenities close to hand. Decor is in an executive style with dark colours accompanied by antique wood and shiny copper. We stayed in a superior room that had an enormous bed with luxurious bedding and an added bonus of a beautifully decorated large walk in shower. Attention to detail is evident in every nook and cranny, from gorgeous China cups and saucers, to bakerlite (style) radios. There was a speaker in the ceiling to allow the listening of music whilst using the bathroom. What made this place so special for both my husband and myself was the absolute professionalism of the staff, who went above and beyond to ensure our stay was both comfortable and well catered for. We enjoyed our dining experience very much however my main course pasta dish with olive tapenade needed texture to complete the dish and may have benefitted from something to cut through the richness such as some small sunblush tomatoes or chopped caramelised onions. However all of the other dishes were exceptional, very tasty and beautifully presented. I cannot fault any part of our stay, we did order room service which was a little slow but this matter was resolved by the lovely staff, without any complaint from ourselves. We will definitely revisit in the future and cannot recommend this little gem in Cambridge more highly.

At a glance, the hotel looks and feels very welcoming. Sadly, my wife had a loose part from the ceiling fall on her head, she wasn't happy as dust fell onto her face and eyes. When we seeked help, the manager tried to help but sent us to several wrong rooms. This was exceptionally frustrating, as we had lots of heavy luggage and she wasn't happy moving from room to room. He did offer a complimentary bottle of wine, but this didn't cover our time lost and how my wife felt after the event. This wasn't looked into the following morning during check out either. She wasn't asked how she was. Unfortunately it ruined and disturbed our little getaway as she didn't feel great after. Therefore we will not be coming again. This is a shame as the staff at reception, manager and restaurant employees were very friendly and welcoming. Please check the room (especially ceiling for loosely fitted items).

We came for afternoon tea over the weekend. It was cheap and cheerful. The tea was held in the library which was a nice room but not what we was expecting. We thought it would be in the garden suite like to photos. We were seated on sofas, it would have been better to have a table. The sandwiches were OK. The cake selection was a different variety and were delicious. Overall a nice time.
