OK it seems to be going through refurbishment upstairs hence the smell of wet paint and the corridors certainly are a bit tired. Hopefully that will change soon. Rooms nice enough however, warm, clean and comfy beds. Downstairs very nice with lovely bar, had a fantastic meal there. And staff very pleasant, was asked on checkout if I enjoyed my stay, a big tick box for me. Give me this characterful, historic place (think it used to be a Catholic girls school) over a modern but bland samey Premier Inn any day.
Not bad value. A good paint of the common parts and perhaps some rooms which was actually in the process would make it aesthetically more pleasing on the eye. The room was fine, clean and comfortable...ok we didn't expect Hilton furnishings but it was fine and service friendly. Try the Curry House around the corner for a great meal. FIDELSCASTROL.
I had a lovely stay at this hotel with my brothers, huge rooms comfortable beds, ensuite, very clean we felt safe due to covid staying here. The bar staff were great, as l like to take a iced water to bed, staff done this without me asking when l walked in the door, great service thank you, l highly recommend this hotel, thank you to all the staff who made our stay safe.
Large, clean rooms with big comfy beds and clean en suites. Staff were extremely friendly. Old building with big old doors meant some noise was audible from the halls, which wasn't enough to bother me as I am used to living in a busy city centre. The wifi didn't always connect but the hotel seemed full when we visited and when it did connect, which was most of the time, it was fast.
Room dingy and sparsely furnished. Felt very dated. Double bed was actually 2 singles belted together which made it too big for the headboard. Mattress lumpy and hard, so bad nights sleep. Pillows (1 each) felt like bags of hardened concrete! We tried to use chain to secure bedroom door, but it hadn’t been fitted correctly and didn’t stretch to meet! Not worth the price paid...
