This is a quirky hotel converted from two adjacent Victorian bank buildings. So the hotel has multiple levels and little corridors connecting the various spaces (the journey to the bar from the restaurant involves a short flight of stairs up - through a narrow corridor - a short flight of stairs down - and then another short flight of stairs up - and not all of these flights have handrails. No good for anyone who is not agile. And on my arrival the lift was not working - so it was a steep climb up narrow stairs to my room on the top floor with my luggage (lift was repaired by the next morning). The hotel is located in the centre of Bristol within easy reach of most things (10 min walk from the hotel to the Old Vic in one direction, and a similar walk to the shopping quarter in the other. for example). In late January it was quiet - but I can imagine that when the weather is warmer, it might be a noisy location. But the biggest problem with the hotel is that many (and possibly nearly all) of the standard and superior rooms have no "view". My room had frosted glass windows and poor natural light. As I was staying in the hotel on a business trip in January - and didn't get back to my room in daylight hours - this didn't have much impact on me. But I wouldn't want to be in a standard or superior bedroom between March and October - once the days get longer. My superior room was comfortable - but a bit of a squeeze - just enough room for a large double bed and a small desk to one side - had to edge sideways between the bed and the wall-mounted TV (TV had the main free-to-air TV channels, but no streaming services - not even the BBC iPlayer). En suite had a single basin and a good sized shower - but no bath. Room was cold when I arrived - and I had to play "hunt the switch" in order to turn on the electric towel rail in the en suite (eventually found it hidden behind the ironing board in the back of the wardrobe). Review the restaurant separately - breakfast was reasonable, with choice of croissant, fruit, cereals etc on a buffet - and a good selection of cooked breakfasts. But dinner was indifferent. I wouldn't choose to return to this hotel.…
Had a lovely meal here today - ordered the fish and chips. The batter was gluten free, deliciously crispy and light. The fish was delicate and perfectly cooked. The service from Anxhela and Fabio was so attentive. Would definately return 🥰
Tip top hotel, couldn't have asked for more accommodating staff, above and beyond. Stunning rooms, very high standard finish and cleanliness with complimentary Gin and Port in stunning decanters. the building is an old bank with some nice original features left in the building, quirky spa. Perfect location, walking distance to everything. Really cannot recommend this hotel enough, made my birthday special. Thank you
I was disappointed with my stay and felt it did not meet my expectation of the brand. The positives were the staff were friendly and helpful generally and the bathroom was lovely and spacious with good facilities. I feel the cleaning of the room before me had been rushed. There was no complimentary water, just an empty bottle left by the previous residents. The mini bar was not stocked and there was hair in the bathroom, again I would assume was from the predecessor. My room was on Corn Street where loud voices were clearly heard through the night unit around 3am. If you want a good nights sleep then ask for a room at the back. Finally I felt the menu was uninspiring and somewhat limited. I ended up choosing the super grain salad which said it was broccoli, freeman, quinoa and pomegranate but when it came there was no broccoli, it had been replaced with lettuce. All in all it was not what I would have expected of a Harbour Hotel.…
Just returned home after a lovely stay with friends at this beautiful hotel. We cannot speak more highly of the staff, they were so lovely and accommodating. The rooms were spotless and beautifully furnished. The food was excellent too. The spa was an added bonus. We will definately be using this hotel again.
We have stayed here before and had a lovely time. I should start by saying we booked this last minute. We arrived and were checked in efficiently and warmly. Our room was at the back and when we entered we found it had an awful smell in the bathroom. It was small and very oddly laid out with the TV being on the side making it almost impossible to watch. We arrived at 6pm and there was no maintenance available until the morning and as it was so busy no other rooms. The hotel ran a machine while we were out which did help but by the morning the smell was back. The hotel were helpful and apologetic. To sum up I would return but would be more picky about my room.
Just returned after spending 2 nights away with the wife for her birthday, as a chef of 31 years I know how damaging reviews can be but when a place is as good as it his it deserves a review. We were welcomed with a smile and taken to our room which was clean, tidy and very well decorated. The shower and facilities were lovely but the best surprise was the massive bed, not only was it massive but by far the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept on, having young children we were looking forward to sleeping and you couldn’t go wrong on this bed. The spa facilities which we used each day were very good and incredibly creative to make them in the basement and old vault like it is. Again very clean and tidy but could maybe do with some lights in the pool as it is very dark. We decided to eat at the hotel on the first night and it was very nice, the food looked great and tasted lovely, personally not a fan of the choice of lager but there is an incredible selection of spirits to make up for that, my wife certainly liked the cocktails. The reason I only gave a rating of 4 was the breakfast, not the same team in the kitchen as the night before and you could tell, sausages weren’t great, tasted grainy and overcooked, black pudding was crispy and over cooked but I thought maybe that was just my opinion, however my wife had the vegetarian breakfast and the halloumi was over cooked, eggs were like bullets so over cooked, understandable if it was busy but we were one of 4 tables at that time. This being said it was still edible and certainly not worth complaining about until I found out how much the breakfast cost us on checking out. Lastly the location is amazing with the hippodrome and a massive choice of bars and restaurants 2 minutes one way, 2 minutes the other way is the shopping centres, you really are in the heart of everything. We will certainly look to go back again soon and can highly recommend.…
I would first like to say that the hotel is in a prime location, the outside looks fabulous ,and the staff are very nice. We stayed for a weekend break and opted for one of the more expensive rooms as a treat after suffering a bad year of family tragedy. The good point of the room was that the bathroom was fantastic...one of the best I have come across, and the bed was enormous and very comfy. Unfortunately the decor of the room was in a bad state...there were drink staines on various parts of the wall, damaged furniture, damaged wardrobe doors, large scrapes in the wall, loose bathroom door handles. Also the tv is tiny compared to the size of the room so I had to wear my driving glass to watch it properly. The rooms are not cheap so should have been looked after not ignored as they appear to have been. There are lots of other hotels near the old part of Bristol that are a lot cheaper and I have no doubt in a much better condition than this one. £477 for 2 nights here is just not worth it…
A slightly disappointing stay overall, upon arrival and after a very long and frustrating journey we decided a dip in the spa pool and jacuzzi would be a great way to unwind, however, apparently, you have to book to use these facilities, this is not clear when you book the hotel on-line and there is nothing that indicates this on the website, we understand that this may be the case for a spa treatment but not to use the pool, the only time they had available was when we were due to be dining - very frustrating, so be mindful of this when booking. Our room, although nicely decorated and appointed it was tiny, some very clever photography used for website pics, and although not a deal breaker, better more clear information on the website would be good i.e. some rooms are small or some size info would be good (take note Harbour hotels group), so be mindful again when booking. This may be nit picking but they didn't restock the room complementary items (water and biscuits) - it just comes across as being a bit mean. Another frustration - a cocktail bar that didn't have any Baileys (we were there the week before Christmas - who doesn't have Baileys at Christmas) or 3 of the Rum's they had on the menu, again not a deal breaker but just a little frustrating for a 4 star hotel. Its the little details that make the difference between a great stay and a good stay, finally on the negatives, parking is a pain, there is no suitable place to drop luggage safely and securely and the subsidised carpark is a short walk away (400 m), not great when its raining and you have luggage etc. On a more positive note the staff were friendly and helpful, service was pretty good and the food was very good. Would we stay again, no, Bristol has some much better hotels in the same price point that are more roomy and convenient. 3 out of 5. Could do better. …
We had such a wonderful stay at this hotel for a festive night away. We were fortunate enough to have been upgraded and we were very grateful- the room was amazing, would definitely book again for Bristol! Breakfast was lovely and the spa was such an experience! Highly recommend this place! Thank you ☺️
