We first reviewed The Kings Head back in 2012 shortly after it had opened following extensive refurbishment. We gave The Kings Head 5 stars and since that time have returned on a further 4 occasions when the 5 star standard was fully deserved. Having just returned from our 6th visit the rating has slipped back to 4 stars which is...

I understand that this place is under new management. They seem to be doing a very good job so far so it's hard to understand why 6 of us were the only diners on a wet November night. The food and the service was very, very good. We were on a weekend away and we all agreed that if we were...

Second visit to the Kings Head this year. Nice comfortable hotel with a good bar with some local real ales warmed by wood burning fires. Staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. We stayed in Room 6 which is a nice quiet, spacious room at the furthest end of hotel. Nicely modernised, clean and comfortable. Dinner was very nice with local...

First time to the Kings Head - great little pub. Stayed in room 4 which was comfortable and spotlessly clean. Be warned the shower and bath do not accommodate anyone over 5 feet 8 due to a ceiling beam which runs directly above. Also a little noisy. Dinner was good and Service attentive. Would recommend the steak and Stilton pie....

Went with friends. Food was good and reasonable. My wife had steak pie, which was good but a little heavy (maybe we should have expected that. While i had chicken (which I would recommend). Good stock of different beers and larger.

Stayed overnight with dinner. Steak pie and rack of lamb were good. The scallops starters with a trace of pea puree were disappointing. The lemon assiette special was very disappointing with a nice lemon posset but only a scrape of lemon curd, and some pleasant lemon shortbread, the sticky toffee pudding was good. Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was...

Stopped here for lunch on a trip up North . Beautiful setting by a stream . The moment we stepped inside we were greeted by a lovely lady with long dark hair. We just had sandwiches but they were presented with a small dressed salad and a bowl of tasty vegetable crisps . The ingredients used were all high quality...

We really enjoyed our stop off here for a meal-We were chatted to and served brilliantly by the staff who were informative about the lagers and the food. I recommend the french chicken and the potatoes dauphinoise are amazing! We also really enjoyed the steak pie and the sticky toffee pudding-so light, with gorgeous salted caramel sauce and lemon posset...

This is an outstanding hotel and perfect for an overnight stay on the long haul up to Scotland. The rooms are extremely comfortable with lovely decor. The staff could not be more helpful and we had a very well prepared meal in the restaurant. An excellent choice of food all beautifully presented. We intend to return & make this the...

This was a return visit to the King's Head as we had enjoyed our stay last year. The attractive building and its peaceful location is its primary attraction. The staff are pleasant and helpful and the food delicious. The bedrooms are tastefully decorated, clean and with good quality bed linen. The public rooms are minimally decorated - clutter free but...
