This is a no-brainer, really. If you're staying in Iquitos, just go to the San Pedro lodge. Accommodation, food, reception and knowledge of the guides is all superb as long as you're ok with a bit of a camping vibe. We did most of the organized trips, which bring you into direct contact with local initiatives to preserve the area...

We just got back from our second stay at San Pedro Lodge with our 4 kids. Everything is taken care of from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave- airport pick up/drop off, meals, tours. It is on the river so the kids can swim anytime they want. It is a true Amazon rainforest experience and an amazing...

My friend and I stayed at San Pedro Lodge as part of a larger trip through Peru a few weeks ago and can say that this was definitely one of the best decisions we made on the entire trip. We arrived in Iquitos without much of an itinerary, having just come from a grueling 4 days on the Incan Trail,...

Now, this is where you HAVE to go if you wish to experience the Amazon rainforest area, but you do not have the time or money to go very deeply into the jungle. The indigenous staff are helpful and kind, the cook prepares generous and delicious meals. Very basic but comfortable. You will be left alone, if you like. You...

Cool lodge experience. Expect primitive and remote. Everything went smoothly for us. Quite primitive. 30 minutes by taxi, then 30 minutes by boat, then 30 minutes walk (eliminate the walk and add more boat time when the waters are higher). There is electricity for most of the day with a place to charge in the dining room. Otherwise the rooms...

We left after one night. The reason for this when we came with a delay we had to wait 3 hours to eat something. Hence we would go to the village to get something to eat. There was nothing to eat in the village said the cook. After some hours somebody came to explain several things. Since there's not much...

First of all, you are going to be well fed! Portions are huge and plates of lunch or dinner are only 15 soles, and even better the food is phenomenal. Gino's staff (who happens to be a family) are amazing. Olme, Clare, and Brian take good care of their guests as Gino, the owner is usually in the city or...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
San Pedro Lodge is a rustic lodge located at the end of a small river village inside the Amazon rain forest. The lodge is cozy and offers personalized service, providing accommodation for only 12 people at a time. All beds are equipped with a mosquito net, and you'll find a nicely equipped bathroom and shower in each bungalow. While at the lodge, enjoy leisurely visits to the local village, spot and listen to animals all around, have an afternoon swim in the river, relax in a hammock or join us on the many day trips that we offer. We are happy to offer free shuttle service from the airport/hotel to the lodge. The ride takes about 1 hour from the airport or 1 1/2 hours from Iquitos city center and is an adventurous route begun by motokar and finished by boat. We serve 3 delicious meals per day. Vegetarian meal is available upon request. The meals are all prepared with fresh ingredients and are made from scratch by our excellent chef Clari. Please let us know if you have any food allergies or any other dietary restrictions, so that we can take them into account. When you have arrived and settled in at the San Pedro Lodge, you can take a walk in the little town; San Pedro. The village is located just off the Nanay River, on a beautiful oxbow lake, or 'cocha'. San Pedro is a typical, quiet river town, with just 300 inhabitants, who grow their own food and make a living fishing and selling some of their fruits and vegetables at the market in Belen. There is no electricity yet. People here are content to provide a simple lifestyle for their families, living in their thatched-roofed wooden houses, fishing, hunting, and growing their crops. They enjoy sharing a few beers and a whole lot of laughs. The young play football or volleyball, while the older generation enjoys reminiscing, or sharing the occasional gossip. You are welcome to join any time! The people are friendly, very hospitable and curious to find out more about you. Learn about their history, their way of life, and join in a game of football, and you will make new friends for life. ... more   less
