We visited with 2 friends having read the good reviews. We were disappointed with our meals; mine was chicken fajitas which was bland. The chicken was very dry and the portions of salsa, guacamole and cheese were mean. My husband chose the curry which was again bland, just chunks of dry chicken with sauce poured over it! The cheesecake we shared for dessert was nice. The is waitress topped it all by leaving 2 mints with the bill for 4 of us! We won’t be returning.
I know this pub/hotel/restaurant and visit perhaps twice a year. However food and quality is now rather poor. First we ordered from the menu French Union soup-told now off the menu .So the starters included King Prawn & Avocardo Cocktail which at £7.50 rather expensive for what was served. This dish proved to be actually some some prawns(Not King) laid on a small bed of lettace with Rose-Marie sauce poured over the whole with brown bread thinly coated with butter on three of the four pieces- the avocado was lost somewhere I assume in the kitchen? The following course was Pan Seared Seabass which I really made clear to the poor girl who served the dish that I expected not to have to cut off the ends of the suger snap peas and the top and bottom of the baby carrots-including one which was black in colour and clearly rotton. My wife had better luck with a veggie soup followed by Roast chicken wings and was supplied with 12 wings which seemed over the top. However in fairness she enjoyed her chicken meal but only eating six. No one to complain to was available except the young waitress to whome it seemed had to accept my comments. I made clear having eaten most of the meal I would pay the bill but frankly I would have to be dragged back for any meal from here in the future. Espcially- why do staff offer you a table next to a party of adults and very loud children-when the whole place was almost empty.?Annoying! …
I met up with friends and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Comfortable, spacious room, tasty food, friendly staff, lovely gardens, relaxing location and overall good value for money. We have already considered coming back.
4 of us had lunch here, we all had a roast dinner served to the table by a very friendly and helpful member of staff. The food was served hot with plenty of freshly cooked vegetables that were perfectly cooked. The roasts were delicious, tender and tasty and we were served very quickly. We all enjoyed our different desserts too, served with plenty of custard which is unusual these days! We then had coffee in the comfortable lounge which was very nice too. All in all a great visit and can’t wait to go back again.
This was a really comfortable stay and an excellent meal. I know the cauliflower steak sometimes causes controversy, but all I'm going to say here is that this one was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection with a lovely subtle flavour and substantial and tasty accompaniments, and I'm happy to pay for that! I enjoyed every single bite. All the staff were charming and it was so refreshing not only to have two good vegan main course options but to be told that they could adapt another dish if I preferred. Good breakfast, too. Thanks, all.
