The location in the heart of Dovedale in the National Park is breathtaking. beautiful views all around. The guest facing hotel staff and mostly cheerful and helpful however the kitchen staff are not very accommodating. One evening we just wanted soup and a sandwich which was on the lunch menu but as the lunch menu ceased serving at 6 pm and it was 7 pm the kitchen refused to provide it. I can understand this in a pub but to refuse to serve hotel residents with a snack in the evening is very poor. We had to drive out some miles to find something suitable. Even the bar staff seemed annoyed by the kitchen over this. Our room was a large superior double. It was clean but could do with a refurb as the furnishings were rather tired. The bathroom had been refurbed fairly recently, again it was clean but rather basic for such a large room, it could have had a walk in shower rather than an over the bath one. Due to COVID there’s was no room cleaning during our three day stay. The hotel stuck firmly to COVID guidelines. Breakfasts were good but the scrambled eggs were not very pleasant to look at...rather grey. Finally there was a rather strange incident one night. We were woken at 3am by a group of men talking loudly in a foreign language outside our window. This went on for twenty or more minutes. Apparently they had arrived to stay in the early hours and were annoyed at not being allowed in. This was not the fault of the hotel but maybe the police should have been called.…
