Quite liked this B & B! Kitchen was fantastic! Loved the old stove - fridge and cupboards very well stocked. We passed thru Inverness quickly, and I am sorry I didn’t have time to linger here. Looked like a lot of fun could be had.

The Dusky Diamonds is more of a hostel than a B&B. It is a historic home which the owner, who does not live on site, seemed to be in the process of renovating himself, so our bathroom was half-painted and he was busy installing new blinds in the rooms. A note and instruction sheet (minimal instructions) awaits you on the table as you enter, indicating your room and kitchen procedures. The kitchen was stocked with eggs, bacon, yogurt (pineapple/mango ... UGH!), cold cereal, breads, wine ... and guests were to make their own breakfast. I assumed people would know to wash their own dishes, but apparently some felt it was OK to leave dirty things in the sink for someone else to clean. Two shelves in the fridge were supposed to be reserved for the personal items of food brought by guests, but someone ate 2/3's of our food which was not a pleasant way to start the morning/evening! There was a minimal number of cooking items - pots, pans, etc. - available so if one or two parties were trying to cook on the two available burners, it was difficult for anyone else to make a meal. There was a convection oven, a microwave and a Kurig coffee maker as well as a drip coffee pot, and a selection of teas. Our room (#2) was right next to the kitchen and was horribly noisy when people congregated in the kitchen and used the room as a lounging/chatting place. There were no instructions on how to work the TV, so that was a problem for us. Bathroom was very clean, but few toiletries were stocked (Old Spice soap in shower - hello! I'm a woman, not a man!). Each room had individual heat controls which we greatly appreciated. The only means of communicating with the owner was by cell phone, so if you didn't have coverage and needed to talk with him, you had to leave a note. Our issue, however, was promptly attended to the next day by the owner, but it would have been nice if it could have been dealt with the same day. The B&B, which has a beautiful view of the distant ocean, is located within walking distance of the town, and there is a nice boardwalk that leads to the beach located about 1/2 mile away. If you are comfortable staying in a semi, hostel-like accommodation, Dusky Diamonds would be a good choice.

The location is breath taking..as soon as we arrived we sat on the porch and watched the sun set over the harbour, what a great way to start our Cabot Trail trip. We even watched the owner come in on his sailboat the next morning. We loved that it was a self check in and that we had the freedom to come and go as we pleased as we stayed for 3 nights.. In the morning I made a pot of coffee and was soon joined by other guests, we chatted as we made our breakfast. The fridge and cupboards were full of breakfast items which included eggs and bacon. If you are self sufficient and do not want to be catered to this is the place to stay. The owner Ray was very friendly and proud of his B& B and there is a lovely gal there during the day cleaning and sorting out the rooms, she always had time for a chat. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Do not pass up staying here we loved it.

This is a great place to stay. The view is fantastic. The owner is not on site, as you arrive there is a note indicates your room. Keys are in room. Rooms are small but beautiful and spotless. The kitchen was fully stocked with breakfast items and you help yourself whenever. Sitting out in the evening on the wrap around deck watching the sunset was a real treat. The Dusky Diamond is within walking distance to the beach (which is one of the best in Nova Scotia). Shops and restaurants are also within walking distance. We left our car in the parking lot and did some cycling on the trans Canada trail.

Clean and comfortable. We love that the owner lives down the road so we can get up when we want and feed ourselves when we want without someone hanging over our shoulders. And we can come and go when we want, without fear of disturbing the owners. Each room has its own TV but why would you be watching TV when you are walking distance to everything including a beautiful beach?
