We were 3 in the room, and there was enough place for everyone and our hiking stuff. Ruka is really not far and there is a market next to the Motel. In the room, everything clean, and everything to rest and make food. The owner was really cool: we were sitting outside our room doing nothing, the owner saw us and asked us if we would like to join him for rafting. I found it really kind from him and it shows that the owner pays attention to you. Don't hesistate to go there, especially after the Karhunkierros.
I was birding in the Kuusamo area and, because of good mentions, I chose this place to stay for a couple of nights. The lady proprietor was very welcoming and, because I was on my own, reduced the room rate for me. The room(s) were well appointed and had the benefit of underfloor heating making it very cosy despite the cold Summer weather. Free wi-fi was another bonus. Be warned, however, that if you arrive after 9pm you will have to phone a number for attention (this is not uncommon in Finland). The other thing to mention is that, if you visit Ruka in the Summer, there is hardly anywhere to eat in the evenings. After a considerable search, I was fortunate to find Ruka Tonttu open and they served me food despite it being 9 pm. As a place, Ruka in the Summer is not that appealing but, if you do need to stay, this accommodation, in terms and facilities and economy, certainly hits the spot.…
We stayed at this motel together with my family (two adults and a child) in the New Year vacations. It is a small, very cozy motel, it is located close to the ski slopes (no more than 5 minutes by car). Convenient stop for those who traveling by car. Rooms are comfortable, though small, but it have all the necessities for life. Meals can be prepared in the room. The hosts are very friendly. Not far from the motel there are supermarkets and cafes. The motel has a sauna. Convenient parking in the courtyard, right next to the room. We were very pleased with our stay at this motel:) The only one small thing ... sauna can be hotter.
i have been in this motel 2 times (2007 + 2013) and the first time was perfect. in high season is full of (sometimes) noisy russians. rooms are large and ok, very comfortable. large bathroom. everything ok. price is quite high in high season but it's fair. i prefer low season for weather and so on. if you go for skiing in ruka you find (probably) the best place in finland. very nice and kind staff.
we was in willis west two times, and we are looking forward to go there again. it was at the nordic opening time. if you wanna go to the stadium, it would take you just 20 Minutes. And if you wanna see huskies and rendeers you can go to the husky farm Ära Susi, it is not very far.and if you like hiking it's perferct. There is a bus from Kuusamo Airport to Motel Willis West. Sari and Mark are very friendly people, they will help you with anything they can. the rooms are not much big but very comfortable. and their food is delicious. we love to stay with Mark and Sari.
