We stayed here end Jan. had planned on skiing most days but this accommodation location is quite a way from the slopes. To walk to Rukajärvi valley from the cabin is about 25 mins. To walk to Rukajärvi village is about 1 hour. There is a ski bus but it’s every two hours and stops about 10 min walk from the cabin, so if you have loads of ski equipment or shopping be prepared to carry them up the hill. There is a gondola that takes you from Rukajärvi valley to Rukajärvi village but it was closed 4/7 days due to bad weather so only option was bus every two hours or walk. We wanted to go for a drink or a meal in the evenings but only option after bus service finishes at 6.45 pm was to walk 25 mins to one hotel bar in ruka valley or taxi to ruka village, so we were a bit stuck out of the town area. To be honest if skiing is your thing or you fancy popping out in the evening, you would be better choosing an apartment in Rukajärvi valley or Rukajärvi village. We ended up hiring ski lockers which added to cost of holiday. Cabin was okay. Would recommend trip to see huskies and have a go at cross country skiing, tracks are easy to follow and it’s an experience. Was soooo cold -21! Great skiing for beginners. Ruka village k-market is well stocked and prices okay. They don’t sell any alcohol more than 5 % so suggest you take wine or something with you or be prepared to go to the Alko Shop which is on the outskirts of town.

Overall would recommend but would have chosen accommodation a bit nearer to restaurants and bars...the crystal ski website says in one small paragraph when booking that these cabins are in “quiet area” but you have to click on “expand” to see this info which I missed :(

Hi there
I just recently stayed at crystal ski exclusive Ruka log cabins 4* with my family myself and the Mrs with our 3 children aged 4,9 and 10 we could all not rate the holiday more worth every penny
The log cabin 4* was so amazing we couldn't have wished for more!!! So glad I got my way and had a traditional log cabin with Sauna heated floors open fire with all the wood you need for free lovely kitchen with dish washer cloths drying cabernet towels extra mattresses and blankets fully equipped kitchen with microwave modern tv and DVD player with hdmi to plug the laptop in etc etc rather than Ruka suits or other hotels it really made the holiday.
The s market is only a short walk down the road of which I did every morning and evening just because I loved the walk, it has almost everything you would need and expect also there is a k market in town if you are in Ruka "town" and next door the that is the Alko where u can pick up wine and spirits as the s market only sells beer and cider they all don't stay open late from memory the Ruka shops stayed open till 8pm but the s market near the cabin was open till 9pm
We did 3 trips reindeer experience, husky experience 5k and met Santa's experience all was 5* we all enjoyed every bit in order for me was Huskies then Santa then reindeer but worth every penny and the locals are so nice and friendly !
Best bar for us was the Colorado in Ruka town
Onto the skiing and snowboarding
Kids had ski lessons and loved it
I'm a boarder myself and found the runs a bit skier friendly and not really for boarders which is fair enough but if you only going to snowboard choose somewhere else but I went to enjoy a family holiday so it didn't bother me to much.
If you going here please wrap up it gets very cold !
Also mane take some food and toiletries with you as prices are high in my opinion compared to the U.K.
Ski buses are free and take 10-15 mins to Ruka and 20-25 mins back to the cabin and stop around 7pm
But there are taxis and they cost me €14 to get back from Ruka to the cabin but on take 5 mins if that as no stops like the bus
There is loads to do at Ruka and I can't go on forever but to name a few that I haven't mentioned skidoo rides and rentals, northern lights tours sledging and parks for the kids loads of restaurants shops bowling ice skating etc
Only bad thing if it really is a fault to you or not is there is no wifi in the cabins but there is free wifi in the whole town no matter where u are in town it seems
Hope this helps you all
I wanted to write a review as there isn't mush reviews on theses cabins!
Thanks
Sean Davies and family x

Ps expect temperatures -10 to -30 this time of year dress warm always
Oh and look out for the northern lights and get the Aurora pro app on your phone and chase them lights

Amazing!!!!!!!!

Stayed 1st week in february,3 of us,could do with a up grade but was a late deal, sauna, fire, underfloor heating so very warm, even though outside -24c but warmer later on to a barmy 0c,these cabin are approx a 20-25min walk to the main centre where everything is! Shops ski hire, but if you walk through the ruka safari area you can cut the corner out but you miss the bus stop, the buses run roughly 5mins-35 mins past each hour until approx 18.00 last bus back is 18.45 (buses are free)on the dot,if you miss its a walk back which is not to bad,or a taxi,we were in number 26 which is near the bottom so yes it is a steep walk to the top to the main rd,these were ok but next time we will stay in the centre,we got the food to eat in the cabins on a daily basis from the local supermarket with price ok,got cans beer 1.99 euro, they recycle all cans n bottles, ate out on the last night in the colarado 1starter 3 main,3 drinks approx 104 euros =£80

This was supposed to be a memorable family ski trip, that turned out to be memorable for the wrong reasons.
There where 6 of us, a 3 year old, a pensioner and 2 married couples.
My wife and I have been to Ruka three times before and love the place, so thought this would be ideal for our Granddaughters first time skiing.
I had looked at accommodation through Crystal Ski and thought the Cabins looked a great answer to our requirements, I went for the 4* as I thought that would give us a better standard of accommodation.
Whilst I do blame a lot of our issues on Crystal and their lack of ability to look at its clientele, the cabin was a huge disappointment.
I won't go too much into the cabins position, but please be aware ours did not lend itself to easy access to the slopes, a 20 minute walk each way.
The cabin.
Two separate bedrooms on the ground floor a very small lounge area, small dinning area and a well equipped but under lite kitchen area.
Up a very steep (not suitable for children) flight of stairs (ladder) was a mezzanine floor, with three double beds, a lounge area and a huge TV.
Down stairs.
Only a two seater settee, for 6 people, but that all that would fit.
The bedrooms not only were small, but you could not regulate the temperature.
The dinning area, if you sat down to eat, you could not access the fridge/freezer, oven, hob or sink without a major reshuffle.
Mezzanine
I cant remember how many times I hit my head on the low ceiling height.
The TV worked but because the whole cabin did not have WiFi (unacceptable in this day and age) nothing worked and we could get anything on it.
There was a dumping ground in one corner, probably the owners stuff.
No wardrobes or any draws, not even bedside tables, not that you could have one both sides as all the beds where pushed against the walls.

Whilst the scenery was stunning and the walk the first day was enjoyable, all subsequent walks were not!
We had to get a taxi back with any shopping.
The ski bus is a joke, 7 trips a day at least an hour apart, with a pensioner and a 3 year old, nowhere near enough and with the bus stops 600 and 900 meters away, by the time you were dropped off, you still had an uphill 600m walk or a 900m down hill.

Never again, we paid over £1000 to move into an apartment after day 4, sold a dream delivered a real disappointment.
If you want to be away from it all and enjoy walking and there a four of you, great.
If you are a larger family with a range of ages, who want to ski, these are not for you.

We had a lovely stay in a log cabin in the woods right on the edge of a frozen lake. Lovely log fires and private sauna to warm us up! Well equipped cabin but no washing machine or hair dryer. We went in December and it was very cold and lots of snow! Traditionally built cabin from whole trees that gave a very warm, cozy atmosphere. It is a 10 min bus ride to and from the actual ski resort 'village' or about 30 min walk. Ski bus stop was a few mins walk form our cabin, it free if you have a ski lift pass other wise it is 3 euros each person, each way. Bus runs once an hour or a taxi is about £15 each way, oh and last bus back to the cabins is only 7.15pm to be warned if you want to eat out in the evening! There are several nice restaurants in the ski resort its self but not cheap...a main and one drink each for family of four was aver £100 for not much more than a fancy burger, but a couple of very good café type places for lunches were only about 9 euros for enough for two to share and about 2.50 for a hot drink. Skiing conditions were very good when we were there and no queues at lifts (the week before xmas). Do not expect steep or very challenging runs but for intermediates it was all good practice. Some snazzy lifts on the back side of mountain, all automated embarking, even a pull down wind shield hood and painted up as cars! But there are also some drag lifts if some runs not open yet or for beginers...love or hate those?! Be warned it can be VERY cold so make sure you have the best ski gear. There was also only a few hours of day light, which for us added to the experience, but ski runs are flood lit. Runs open till 7pm (11pm on Fridays!). There are trips to do other things but the expense can run up very quickly, a reindeers herder farm visit with short reindeer sleigh ride was 79 euros each for example with ice fishing and dog sledding similar prices but although lovely it is not for very long! It really is in the middle of nowhere so take everything with you! There is a small super market 10 min walk from cabin and another small one in the ski village but very limited all be it fun trying to work out what everything is! We ended up with tuna and pickled onions (yes pickled) on a take away pizza but hey ho! Airport only about 25 mins away and so small it is all very easy.(was only our plane there) We were even greeted by a very real looking Father Christmas when we landed! We spent the clear evenings on the lake northern light spotting but we were unlucky, we missed them by about 6 hours as they had put on a huge show the night before we arrived!

We were on a Crystal Ski holiday, and we opted for the 4* log cabin as a treat to ourselves. That being said, the price was great for what we got!

The two of us were staying in a 6-8 berth cabin complete with log fire, underfloor heating and our own private sauna!

We had to get a bus to the ski resort, but it was worth it to stay in a traditional log cabin that kept us nice and toasty in the cold evenings.

Highly recommended!

Simply wonderful! We had the best time! We're a family of 4, 2 adults 2 children (4,7). We enjoyed every minute.
Crystal ski reps were excellent throughout, they really knew their stuff and easily available if needed.
We didn't ski whilst we was here, but we did sledging, husky sledging, reindeer sleigh ride, snowmobiling & santas secret cottage, truly amazing all of it.
The cabins were super cosy & clean ,under floor heating, heating in the roof too, full kitchen, dishwasher, washing machine, beds comfy too. 3 beds up stairs and a good sofa bed in lounge which was big enough for an adult easily.
The upper mezzanine has a stair gate at the top, which as parents was such peace of mind to us as the stairs were steep, but all sturdy.
We managed the whole week self catering, which to us was a novelty as most trips we're all inclusive. Supermarket we felt was reasonable. Yes the restaurants were pricey but we expected that and was prepared to see high prices hence the self catering.
Our favourite chill out bar was the Colorado bar, very cosy, and nice settees to relax with the family and a drink.
We loved our time so much we hope to be back next year and this time try out some skiing ❄️⛄️😊

We stayed for a week in Jan 16 we went with Crystal ski and stopped in there 4✨ exclusive to them apparently. We were literally at the base of ruka that tuck us 10 mins to Walk to the centre of ruka. The ski bus was right out side our doors and the second stop so we went around all the other pickups which was great as we got to see the sites .
The accommodation was great we loved it clean tidy and lovely and warm. We knew it was gona be cold there but didn't realise just how cold -29 is.. cold.
Loved the place.

Went in a group of four and stayed 1 week in log cabins, about 15 mins walk from the town centre. The cabins are located in an amazing scenery, although the main road is nearby, it was very quiet and peaceful. We really loved the cabin from day one - traditional wooden look, warm, log fire with plenty of logs (more logs could be found in a shed below the house), sauna to warm up.
Bedrooms were basic with bed, wardrobe and night table but that was jus enough for us. There was a TV but we actually didn't watch it, as we listened to the radio for most of the time. The kitchen has everything what need to prepare the meal. Bathroom was pretty basic with a washbasin, toilet and walk-in shower, and the entrance to the sauna. Drying cabinet was great to put our wet outfit to dry. The cabin has a balcony, but unfortunately due to the cold we could't use it.
The shop is located just few minute walk from the cabin, and another is in the city centre.
It gets really cold (we had a range of temperature from -7 to -22 during the day) so good base layers are really a must have. The day is really short with few hours lot daylight, but the ski runs are lit which is a great experience.

We stayed in a beautiful log cabin in a very quiet location. A family of 5 adults and 1 child. Very large cabin with a fully equipped kitchen and table and chairs for us all to sit and eat dinner. Plenty of logs provided for the fire and very handy washing machine and fun sauna. A steep walk up to the village but great fun sledging home every night. Cant wait to come back - a magical place.
