We enjoyed a superb carvery Sunday lunch with two friends, food was beautifully cooked and very reasonably priced too! The staff were friendly, helpful and obliging. We will be back very soon for more!

We booked the Red Lion due to it being close to a half way point for us the meet up with family and celebrate my father in laws 80th birthday. Due to unforeseen circumstances we were a little late arriving (getting stuck behind 5000 motorbikes on a charity ride), the carvery was set out and we enjoyed a lovely Sunday...

Thank you for your comments regarding the carvery. All our deserts are homemade in advance, some need heating through and unfortunately while the chef is manning the carvery a quick ding is our only option. Apologies about the coffee situation. Rest assured should you come again the coffee will be on us. As a fellow chef you will understand the...

First class home cooked carvery style. Beautiful roast meats, choice of beef, lamb (my fav) pork or Turkey with all the trimmings. Fab yorkshires and delicious fresh vegetables with lashings of gravy. This is really good value and a real Sunday treat! Thank you.

Thank you so much for the wonderful review of your recent Sunday lunch. We work hard to ensure that it is of a higher standard than the average carvery. We hope you will come again and keep supporting our local independently run business.

Stayed one night during a walking holiday along the Wye Valley Walk. Cozy old pub atmosphere with locals telling tall tales. It's a haven for fishermen, right down to the anglers wifi password, which I will not reveal here. Our room was a triple upstairs facing the back yard. Basic with older finishes and furnishings--but clean, spacious, comfortable and quiet....

Fifteen of The Saracen's Head Angling Group had a great two nights again at The Red Lion. Mike, Gordon and the staff looked after us really well. The rooms are very comfortable and well appointed. The food, both evenings and breakfasts, was excellent; thanks chef. It our third visit and no doubt we will return. Cheers Mike!

Convenient to Hereford and the Wye Valley, we stayed here because it is walking distance from Brobury House, where we attended a wedding. Family from across the globe gathered here, and it was perfect. Comfortable pub, delicious meals, easy access to countryside walks, and easy to get to from the A438. Staff were very helpful and accommodating.

Our second visit , friendly staff, food is to a good standard. We were house hintin in the area, shame no dog allowed. Luckily we left pooch at home. Fish and chips were good , nice battered fish seemed homemade but chips were out of a packet. Would recomend as a lunch pit stop.

Hope you found your new home. We do allow dogs in our bar area, just not in the restaurant. I'm sorry this wasn't made clear. We also have a large beer garden out the back with a water bowl for four legged friends, as well as 3 dog friendly guest rooms available on request. Our chips are now homemade :)...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Red Lion Hotel is situated in the tiny hamlet of Bredwardine, which nestles on the banks of the River Wye just twelve miles from Hereford, and 8 miles from Hay-on-Wye.Built of red brick, its origins lie in the seventeenth century when it was used as a coaching inn, also the lounge bears the name The Courtroom. This is where the circuit judge of the day used to sit in judgement. Our aim at the hotel has been to provide you with a peaceful haven in the tranquil heart of England away from the hustle and bustle of work and every day life. Whilst every effort has been made to combine this warm, congenial atmosphere with all the comforts and facilities of a modem day hotel, you will find that the Red Lion retains much of its old world charm including oak beams, and beautiful antiques with blazing log fires through the winter months. The reputation of our dining-room relies on well prepared home-cooked food, using as much fresh produce as possible and cooked to order by our highly regarded chef. You can choose from a varied range of meals off our menus, whether its at breakfast, lunch time or in the evening and remember to look out for our "Specials" board.Whilst situated in the heart of one of the most beautiful areas in the country there are a whole host of things to do and enjoy. These include Herefords Cathedral and the famous Mappa Mundi exhibition to the local Small Breeds & Owl Centre and of course a visit to Herefordshire would not be complete without a trip to Bulmers Cider Museum and for the more active amongst us canoeing down the magnificent river Wye.What ever the reason for your visit we are here to help you enjoy your stay and our beautiful county. ... more   less
