My wife and I stayed here for a weekend break. The staff were welcoming and friendly throughout our stay. The double room was comfy and quiet. The evening menu and breakfast menu was plentiful. Despite being on the main road (A438) it is quiet and an ideal location for visiting several historic houses and driving the Black & White Village...

We went to the Abergavenny food festival and thought we would give The Portway Inn a try.We where not disappointed. Very helpful reception staff , rooms very roomy and clean .Food was excellent in restaurant and at breakfast . Even my son couldn't fault the bar and spent a few merry hours playing pool . I took my family for lunch last Sunday for a celebratory meal. The food was excellent and everyone commented how much they enjoyed their meal. In particular, my wife had sea bass on a bed of samphire which was excellent. Nine people were in our party and I was pleasantly surprised that the bill was less than I anticipated! Thank...

We were all really disappointed that this place didn't live up to expectations. The staff were excellent and the evening meal & cooked breakfast were really good. But the rooms and public areas of the hotel in general were tired and unloved. The room we stayed in was in the main building above the dining room so expect to be...

Positive first: my partners steak and ale pie was very good value, BUT I ordered gigons of lamb, told fresh local produce would take 20 minutes or so to prepare; fair enough. However customer at table opposite sent same order back as it was overdone, rather than medium rare as asked. Result his replaced order arrived 10 minutes later rather...

Spent three nights here with another couple. Not the most luxurious of hotels but adequate for a few nights stop and in an ideal location to visit the local area. We were well looked after by very pleasant and helpful staff and the food, both at breakfast and evening meal was excellent. Would stop there again if we returned to...

The hotel location was excellent for walking and visiting the upper Wye Valley. The staff was very welcoming and efficient. The restaurant has a good choice of food and our meals including breakfast were delicious and good value for money. Overall an enjoyable stay. The building has character but is in some respects old fashioned I.e. no TV in the’...

Stayed one night with my sister prior to a spa day in Hereford. This is a very pleasant place to stay, the rooms are very good (would have liked somewhere to hang clothes in the bathroom) with all you need in the room and good toiletries should you forget your own. The food in the restaurant is of a high...

We only stopped over for a one night stay but found the establishment well run, clean and with excellent service. Whilst located near to the main road the hotel has ample grounds and is convenient for visiting all areas of the Wye valley. Our room was spotless and probably one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in....
