#1 of 14 Speciality lodging in Kumta
OmBodhi Retreat is a simple yet elegant beach front property and believes in fair-trade practices. It is spread over 10 acres of lush green landscape, which includes coconut, cashew nut and casuarina plantation. We are right on the uncrowded, clean and peaceful beach, and provide beachbeds. Simplicity defines the warm ambiance of our cottages. They are well-lighted, airy, have queen-sized bed and AC. Some of the furnishing of the cottages is our own production from family-run handicraft business, which we also supply to Fabindia and Westside. You rest assured that you have an attached bathroom with shower, geyser for hot water, washbasin and basic toiletries. Our restaurant, Cafe Kokam is amidst the coconut plantation overlooking the beach and have outdoor sitting, hammocks. We serve you delicacies which you can enjoy in this pleasant ambiance. This is a place you may not like to leave easily not only because of its excellent location but also for its variety of refreshing juice, beverages as well as delicious food.

PROS: Location is awesome, Beach Front, Staff is well trained and caring, Food quality and taste is very good. Well maintained Garden, Property. CONS: No king bed in entire property, makes it difficult for families with small kids. Room B3/B4 AC s are too loud, Need to fix them. No Local Cuisine Available, No south indian BF s (not a big deal) Sometimes food oreder can take more than hour since ther is 1 chef (order in advance 1 half hour :) )

Hello, thanks for your balanced review and liking our property. - Our staff comes from simple and humble backgrounds and trained locally by us. The main criteria for our selection is their caring nature and good heartedness. - Cleaning of our beach is a regular practice where we all get involved. Our 10 acres of property has 140 metres of beachfront. - Thanks for liking the taste of the food that we serve. We serve what our cook prepares the best. Regarding your concerns, here is our humble response: - We looked into the sound made by the ACs as mentioned by you. We don't have central AC system. All our ACs are Hitachi inverter split ACs. We are under AMC and maintain them regularly. It is the sound of the AC fan that you may have heard, which varies with the fan mode. There are other modes too like Auto, Cool, Dry, etc. AC does make little click sound when it changes its mode automatically. The sound of the outer unit cannot be heard at all. The similar sound of the fan and other modes come from all the ACs and we cannot do anything about it. The sound could be more obvious since the ACs are placed not far from the bed. - We have only 11 rooms and serve majorly to our in-house guests only. We cannot afford to be a specialist restaurant in local cuisine and serve whatever our cook specialises in. Our menu is spread over quite a few pages that includes indian, Chinese, Continental, variety of snacks, etc. We serve whatever we are good at. - We serve fresh food as per the order and do not prepare food in bulk in advance. Sometimes it may take additional time; hence we tend to take orders in advance. - Our assistant cook was on leave for the past few days and has returned today. - We sre in the process of upgrading quite a few things in our property. In another 3-4 months we will have a few king-sized beds in our property, kitchenette in few rooms, couple of connected rooms for families and more. We thank you once again and hope to serve you again in future. Regards.

If your idea of a great beach holiday is groovy, pulsating EDM music, alcohol, sun-down parties, water sports and a buzzing nightlife - this place is NOT for you. If your idea of a good beach holiday is the sound of sea blending with the sound of your heart-beat during an early morning run on a 6 km beach stretch and not a person in sight - this is the right place for you. If your idea of a great beach holiday is lying down on a hammock under a tree with a book while the sound of the sea and the breeze lull in into gentle sleep - this is the great place for you. If your idea of a perfect beach holiday is running around on an empty beach with your little one, swimming in the gentle sea, collecting sea-shells and building sand castles on a pristine white-sand beach, without having to worry about being run over by unruly water sports vendors or if you wish to take a leisurely walk with your partner in solitude and truly have no one around - this place is perfect. If you enjoy walking a few kilometers to watch fisher-folk push their boats into the sea and if you think your idea of fun is to lend them a hand along with your young one – you will love this place. The little hotel itself is basic but efficient and clean. The cottages are well spaced out across the property. The rooms are minimalistic but clean. Beds are basic but comfortable. Toilets are clean. Towels and linen are spotless. There is no TV in the room. Wifi is available in the common area and restaurant but not in the room. Which forces one to spend time outdoors on the glorious beach or to enjoy a book on a hammock. They have a small restaurant with a modest menu (North Indian, Chinese and sea-food) but everything is freshly cooked, tasteful, and easy on the palette. My 7 year old loved the cheese and cucumber sandwiches and ate them at every meal and my wife rather liked her butter garlic prawns and pomfrets. They don’t serve or encourage the consumption of alcohol in the restaurant or common areas. No one will object to you having a quite glass of wine sitting in the verandah of your cottage or in your room. The owners spend a lot of time on the property, engage with their customer and genuinely care about their well-being. The limited housekeeping and restaurant staff are earnest and quietly super-efficient. A special word for Agnelo who coordinates the property management and mans the reception. The place reminded me of the lovely crowd-free beaches in the south of Goa that I frequented in my childhood. I spent 3 relaxing, peaceful and enjoyable nights at this quaint little beachfront hotel with direct access to the beach and hope to go back soon.

The place is great for people looking to unwind at a beautiful beach. The rooms are in simply furnished cottages which are well kept and are scattered around the property - far enough so you can have your privacy even out on the porch, but close enough to the central reception so you don't have to walk a lot. In and around the reception some colourful hammocks are strung to the casuarina trees which are wonderful for reading a book and dozing off in. Went swimming in the water almost every day, making the most of the lack of crowds. Other beaches we saw like Gokarna were packed full and made us concerned due to the lack of health precautions. The best thing about staying here is the warmth of the staff. They are so quick to learn what your preferences are and work really hard to make you feel at home. They also always have masks on and sanitize surfaces frequently. Left with my batteries fully recharged and my mind at peace having reflected on the past year (2020).

Ombodhi was a fantastic place to spend a peaceful Christmas and New Years. The property is right on the beach, the beach in front of the property in clean, the staff are kind ans helpful and the food good and homely. The property owners when around are great to talk to and come interact with guests not just to make sure all their needs are being met but also just for a friendly chat. Would highly recommend it!

We absolutely loved our stay at Ombodhi. We initially only booked for 3 nights, but we met with an accident and had to extend our stay and they were very accommodating. The rooms are cute and clean and very homely. The place is a 10 acre forest by the beach - it's beautiful. Nirvana beach which is a few steps away is peaceful and calm. Staff were great and made sure everything was perfect for us. Food options were a little limited, a little more variety would of been nice. However, I will be sure to visit again :)
