Pros: new dorms, outlets and lights at each bunk, friendly staff, laundry facilities, huge rooms Cons: wifi was spotty, hostel is a far walk from city centre (a little uneasy at night), no mirror in bathroom (just at sink in room), sink too small to wash face

This is a modern, clean hostel offering great value for money. As with many yha hostels, it has a fantastic location; in this case a little out of town though still walkable, but it was great to be able to park the car so easily. The walk to town was an absolute pleasure along the river - quite dark at...

Thank you 14jaym for your review, i'm glad to read that the property offered a suitable base for your trip to York and you found the facilities to be pleasing. Its unfortunate your stay was tainted by the disruption from other guests. Whilst we discourage large same sex groups from our business we do allow groups and unfortunately we do...

Lovely hostel at the side of the canal. Bedrooms and common areas have been refurbished recently but be aware of the fan extractor in the toilet, it is far too loud and goes on with any movement during the night and takes ages to go off too.

Thank you sarahyvonne1001 for your review of YHA York, I'm glad you had a good stay we are looking into recent guest feedback regarding the extractors, this has not always been an issue so maybe some readjustment needed, apologies if this affected what I hope was otherwise a pleasant stay. Nice, but let me explain some issues: We made a reservation ages in advance for a private room. My husband is a YHA member, and has stayed here many times. We got there after cycling 50 miles - we were knackered! Settling in was the priority. We waited to check in (only 1 on duty to help there, at first)...

A group of friends and I decided to go to York for the night. The races were on so most hotels were charging upwards of £100 a night. We decided to take a chance on the Hostel. It was much better than expected, nice and clean, good facilities in the rooms and a 24 hour reception. Then bar was good...

Thank you Chris H for your review of YHA York, i'm glad you found our hostel suitable for your means. We offer fans to guests but as you stayed during the hottest week of the year your feedback was mirrored by many, the limited opening windows due to our majority of young visitors doesn't help our situation at these times....

This was a nice modern hostel located just on the fringe of the city area of York. It's got plenty of parking spaces and has spacious grounds. The lobby area inside is equally large, with a common sitting area that is sun-drenched. Plenty of lounge areas, seats and tables if you don't want to be locked up in your room....

First of all the Staff were amazing I had some difficulties with my arrangements (of my own making) due to an injury, which entailed changing my requirements several times. The staff were extremely helpful and on arrival we were made very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The Premises were set in lovely grounds with well maintained gardens and...

We visited with 80 Year 6 (10-11 years old) children for one night. The hostel is clean, quiet and the facilities were great. Teachers among us know that room allocation can be an absolute nightmare for a large group, but YHA ensured that it was a breeze. As we had decided dorm groups in advance and sent these to the...

Nice little hostel on outskirts of York. Very helpful staff and great bar/restaurant area. Didn't have breakfast but looked very good from what others were having. Nice comfortable room with good shower area (I stayed in a 4 person communal). Seems to cater for a lot of school trips so welcome area can become crowded particuarly between 9-10am. Is a...

Room and facilities were clean and staff perfectly friendly. However, breakfast only ran until 9.30 with absolutely no indication anywhere (in fact leaflets all said city hostels offered food until 11) so we were forced to leave hungry. Not the best final impression.
