Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I had the most wonderful time at the Go Explore Hostel. The rooms are newly renovated and include bathrooms, and are now more a hotel than a hostel. The historic building is beautiful, including the Sailors bar downstairs, and staff were incredibly kind and accommodating. Breakfast was included and delicious. The location is very close to the quay and a great home base for exploring the island. You will not regret your choice!

The Go Explore Hostel has fine rooms, very clean, high comfort everything. Lovely spot. The Sailor's bar underneath is a great place to be, amazing views, the kitchen is high standard, great selection of beers, whiskey, lovely people serving and welcoming you ... It's worth visiting the island and stay in this lovely accommodation.

Had a lovely stay in Go Explore, it is spotlessly clean and the beds are very comfy. The breakfast provided in the bar was lovely and lunch and dinner in Sailors Bar is top class food and service from the staff was excellent. Clare Island is an excellent choice for a family holiday as it is so safe and has lots to see and explore.

Carl and the crew in Go Explore Hostel have a great thing going - starting with the views, the food, the friendly staff and the island not to mention the comfortable surroundings and the facilities. Def one to add to your list when visiting the beautiful Clare Island. The food in Sailors Bar is excellent. Carl was so helpful. Thanks Carl be back again.

Spent one night as a family of four - great craic, fabulous food in Sailors bar, staff were very welcoming and helpful, hostel immaculate - we took our bikes over on the ferry and had a great cycle round the island - wonderful views back to the mainland and great breakfast - we loved Clare Island and the Go Explore Hostel could have stayed much longer

As part of a group of 10 adults, who have stayed in many hostels on our previous travels, the Go Explore Hostel and in hostel restaurant/bar and kitchen facilities were of the highest hosteling order. We availed of the full breakfast and evening meal, both very good, in particular, the barbeque salmon starter and Cajun cod main which myself and 3 others in group opted for were excellent, those in group who opted for the steak, and those who opted for vegetarian option were all impressed with their meals, as we all were with dessert. Friendly people working there too. Patrick B Bennett

looking at the view on line it gives the impression of young women all together , i had not done hostelling before i was on my own four night put in a mixed room with myself alone and lone men , one and two some nights, the last night was very distresssing i was in a room with a well known man on the island who has health problems , who insisted that he have my bed , and was agresssive in manner the hostel were aware of this man and i was with him on my own , i went down to the longe to sleep on the couch and this same man followered me to this room . i was freked out by him and im am not easily annoyed and i have sympathy for his problems that he was telling me , i was eventually moved after getting upset . i have a very poor opinion of this hostel , in its management and the fact that this should have been flagged before you go, the price of acccomodation has nothing to do with it it should be quality at any price ,mixed gender rooms with a single vunerable women even and the men vunerable as well to accusations on both parties involved very unsafe , no one in the hostel seemed to have ant sense as how this is not a reasonable comfortable position to be in .other experiences on the island were very good , but this was not ,any young single girl be advised .

3 families stayed 3 nights in 3 family rooms. We have done 4 islands off the Irish coast staying in hostels. Go Explore Hostel was far superior to all the other hostels. It is spotless. All rooms are spacious and ensuite . The staff can't do enough to help. We self catered for 2 out of 3 nights. We ate in the Sailor's bar on the first night. The food was absolutely delicious. The fish was out of this world. We watched the boat coming in with the mussels which were served 20 mins later. The kitchen was well equipped Breakfast is provided which was great. Staff really were so informative and helpful. We all feel so refreshed after our stay. Highly recommended. Thanks very much to all at Go Explore Hostel. Beautiful island. Friendly people. We will be back

Weekend on Clare Island I as part of the Boyle Camera Club booked to stay at the Go Explore Hostel on Clare Island. I spoke with Carl about what package he could offer us, as I needed - 2 x 8 bed dorms, one for Men and one for Women. Carl gave us a great deal, which included out 2 nights B&B, 1 evening meal and the ferry crossing. I found him very helpful every time I talked to him. When we arrived, we were checked in by a friendly receptionist and shown to our rooms. The rooms were large and clean, bunk beds comfortable and ensuite bathroom spacious, there were two more bathrooms on our corridor. One point to remember is to bring your own towels and toiletries as they are not provided. The Sailors Bar & Restaurant is connected to the hostel; it offers a wide variety of excellent food on the menu. The Fish dishes are magnificent, and all the staff are very friendly and attentive. The boys says that the Guinness is great very creamy. The hostel is located about seven minutes’ walk from the ferry from it you can see fantastic views across Clew Bay to Croagh Patrick and the Twelve Bens mountain range in Connemara. We were on the Island 6 years ago but the “Bayview Hotel” (now Go Explore Hostel) was closed, so we split up into different B&B’s all of which were top class. This was our first time to stay at the Go Explore Hostel and would stay again without hesitation What a setting for walks, whether a long trek to the lighthouse where you can see for miles, or a shorter walk that takes you to the church and abbey and check out what’s left of the paintings on the abbeys ceiling. On one of our short loop walks we met a gentleman and his dog and he told us some of the history of the island. He asked us where we were staying and when we told him, he said that he built the Bayview Hotel there many years and that it was his son that turned it into a Hostel.( as we say small world) When it was time to leave the island Carl gave us a great breakfast, brought all our bags down to the ferry and even put them on-board for us. What a helpful, caring person he is. THANK YOU CARL and all your staff for a wonderful weekend. Photos to follow soon. We had great craic on our trip; roll on next year for another trip.

Great spot to stay for a break. Hostel itself is very comfortable and well looked after, food is great in the bar, and if the weather is good the tables at the front are the perfect place to be for a day. The staff are fantastic, special mention to John for making sure everything was going smoothly. Definitely be back.
