We got to this hotel as a free upgrade since our original hotel was closed due to covid-19. I can not express my satisfaction enough. Location is superb. The hotel is big, but does not seem so. The staff were very welcoming, nice and respectful. Peace entered, problems left. Apart from the saturday night gig which sometimes sounded like a karaoke night, perfect.
We stayed in a master suite, resort view, for four nights in April with half board. Due to covid and occupancy, the breakfast buffet was open but we had the choice of two a la carte restaurants for dinner. This resort is absolutely gorgeous. The rooms, the pools, the lobby, the restaurants, the open areas...all stunning. Our room was comfortable and had great amenities. The only area of improvement we have is the dinner options. The staff seemed overrun and the service was just okay. When you pay half board, you expect some variety and we didn’t get it. Breakfast was excellent despite having to wait for staff to serve you at each station (they were friendly and fast).
As a world traveller and NOT a resort lover, I must admit I fell in love with Gran Melia: With its 10th biggest, crystal clear salt water pool among all hotels ww, nestled into the landscape by top architects (in contrast to the fortress-looking Ritz or the Royal Hideaway in La Galeta, a true eye sore), the guaranteed sun-spoilt location in the South West of the island, the service and abundance at breakfast convinced me that I maybe back a second time - and I routinely never go back to any place a second time!
Since I'm always looking to write reviews highlighting all aspects of a stay, I would like to start with a huge compliment: the hotel in general, its location, facilities and especially the outstanding staff would deserve an excellent review with 5 points. However, our somewhat special experience with how we got treated by the management in an extraordinary situation and the very negative ending of our 10 day holiday is not allowing for more than 3 points: as every tourist, we were required to have a negative PCR test on arrival. This was done in Switzerland and there was no complaint. Two days before our departure we again were supposed to take another PCR test to fly back home. So far nothing special. Like most other guests we trusted the suggestion by the hotel regarding a "medical expert" coming to the hotel (from Quironsalud). Unfortunately, this test was done not considering any rules of a smear test (we work both in the medical sector): it was not taken from the upper part of the nose but from the middle and it was done in approx. 4 seconds (instead of 20+)! While we already knew that the result cannot be trusted, we were very unlucky that one of the two "wrong" tests showed a positive result. And even though we insisted hard on having a second test done, we were locked into our room (together with our 2 year old) and only allowed the next day to take two second tests. And even though the quick test (not surprisingly) showed a negative result, we were forced to stay another day in the room until the result of the PCR test (again negative) was there. While we - as probably anyone else - appreciate the caution of the hotel, we at least expect that someone will take the responsibility in case of an error with such significant impact and at least refund for the damage: the hotel as a trusted intermediary and the medical institution as the provider. Until today, both institutions disclaim any responsibility - even though in the discussions with Quironsalud every proof of the test gone wrong came to light! So long story short: as a guest, I do not feel being taken seriously. The management of Gran Melia Palacio de Isora is welcoming as long as everything goes as usual. Put into extraordinary situations you may be exposed to rude behavior.…
We spent 5 days there and the experience has been amazing. Great staff, beautiful views and good covid19 rules. We stayed at the Red level. 2 people that i have to highlight from the staff. Monica, responsible for our room and Vero at the reception. They both did all they could to make our stay unforgettable.
