The Falcon Inn is a hidden gem. Set in Littondale the village of Arncliffe is the main village, at the top set against one of the village greens is the Falcon. This traditional Inn still serves bitter from the cask to glass via a jug (a guest ale is often available on hand pull). The Falcon is also the original Woolpack of Emmerdale Farm!

The staff are friendly and helpful. They have had table service since they reopened in July and I have always felt safe eating there.
They don't make the rules, but they stick to them and don't allow groups of more than 6 in.
Good beer, good food, good company and fantastic views

Extremely unwelcoming attitude by waitress(publican was ok). Waited 25 minutes to place order for dinner while locals chatted about cricket. Ordered Sauvignon Blanc with Seafood grill - wine served by waitress room temperature with ice cubes in! Asked for second glass later - didn’t arrive but was charged in unidentified total. All sorted out, but not the best of experiences. Food ok, fish and chips the best of our meals.

Gave it 3* only because the breakfast was so good, a comfortable bed & pillows, all else was disappointing.
There are 6 rooms and the one we had was the only one with an en-suite, they state wifi in the room but we could only get it on the landing, our Nextdoor neighbours also had the same problem.
On arrival we were advised that dinner would be between 18.00 & 19.00 and the choice was fish & chips or scampi & chips!! We opted for fish & chips at 19.00 and could we have it in our room. …No, if we come down & collect it…No. OK, so could we just have two plates & some cutlery (we had picnic food in the car)…No
The Inn closed at 20.00 after which there was nobody available, so if you wanted a drink at the bar after then, hard luck. If you had a drink of your own & wanted to drink it in your room, probable answer would have been…No
Breakfast was served between 08.30-09.00, not much of a window, but the welcome highlight of the stay.

My wife and I visit the Falcon on a regular basis and have done so for a fair number of years. Andy, Caroline, Charlie and Simon are all sound as a pound. The food the beer, wines and spirits are always top notch. The COVID pandemic has had an effect on us all but the licensed trade has been hit bad. We all need to respect the rules however mixed up they are. The Falcon is second to none for trying it’s best to make things safe for all its customers, staff and local residents. On arrival there are clear instructions about waiting until requested to enter. Hand sanitization is a must on entering and then Charlie or Simon will show you to your seat. Once seated, your order will be taken from your table. The seating areas are always socially distanced and out of bounds areas are clearly marked. The staff do not allow parties bigger than a group of six and, to my knowledge, have turned them away on several occasions. The staff are also regularly abused for trying to play by the rules. Let’s cut them a bit of slack.

We have enjoyed a few meals at The Falcon courtesy of Boris and his generous deal for pub meals.
The Covid rules were simple to understand - wait to be served, sanitise your hands , enjoy your food!!
I have read some reviews commenting on the staff - I don’t envy their jobs, some people just do not understand the rules are there to safeguard both customers and staff.
Fingers crossed - we can get back to a “normal” soon and enjoy our pubs how we used to !!

Arrived in Arncliffe halfway through a fantastic cycling tour of the region with friends and were delighted to see the sign for the Falcon Inn.
As there was still 20 minutes to go before it opened for lunch we decided to sit and wait at the tables on the grass in front of the inn and enjoy the sun.
When the landlord opened the doors just after 12 noon, instead of the expected Yorkshire hospitality at the sight of 4 hungry and thirsty customers (and we were the only people waiting), we were instead greeted with an unexpected and thoroughly unpleasant verbal tirade that shocked us all.
Despite being pretty hungry by that point we all elected to pack up and leave immediately...feeling unable to give our custom to such a rude individual.
With so many superb pubs and Inns in this area I would suggest that this place is given a wide berth.

The Falcon is very much like a timewarp. That's not neccessarily a disadvantage. Much of it is like it would have been forty years ago and gives it a certain charm. The menu is basic pub grub but nice. The beer is Timonthy Taylors Boltmaker on handpump or from a jug behind the bar. The central heating had been turned off. That can be a problem when a July evening goes to 11C. it also meant the towel rail in the bathroom was turned off and the freshly laundered towels never lost their dampness. We'd have stayed longer in the bar and drank more except for the cold. We retreated to our room but there was no TV

Set in spectacular scenery, The Falcon is a great example of a traditional country pub. Caroline, Andy and their team were all polite and friendly, offering good advice on places we might like to visit, and attentive without being intrusive. Our twin room was large and had everything we needed, including a plentiful supply of towels. Like so many rural inns, The Falcon is struggling to recover from the impact of Covid so the menu is limited; during our stay we tried most items (some more than once – the scampi is excellent) and were never disappointed; the breakfasts are particularly good and filling. One small point to note is that the building is old, built from stone and sound travels easily – if you’re planning to have an early night, take ear plugs to avoid being disturbed by revellers downstairs. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would happily stay there again.

We loved the location of this authentic inn. Driving there was a real adventure. The welcome was friendly. We enjoyed the quirky sense of humor of the proprietor. All in all we felt welcome and we feel this is a true authentic place to stay in the area.
The Falcon Inn has an interesting rustic interior full of ornaments and memorabilia from distant times. Interesting to look at. The atmosphere was friendly. Dinner was basic but tasty. We felt it was a little overpriced for what it was (£16,50 for fish and chips).
We enjoyed having a few drinks in the cozy pub downstairs. However at £6,50 a glass, the red wine also felt a little expensive.
The room had tea & coffee facilities and a big canopy bed. The room was spacious enough, but a bit dated. We felt that carpets weren't the most hygienic option for the room.
Breakfast was a hearty full English with some continental options.
We did not have WiFi in the room or mobile data reception. There was also no fridge or TV present (not the end of the world). The private bathroom was very dated and could be cleaner. The water pressure in the shower was disappointing. The room got quite hot at night.

This week my wife and l walked from Cray over the tops to the Falcon Inn at Arncliffe. The pub has a wonderful setting just off the village green and there are tables and chairs to accommodate quite a number of people at the front of the inn.
The Falcon Inn was clearly a refuge built in earlier times, not the cavernous rooms or open courtyards of modern pubs. A narrow entrance means that trips from outside to the loo, drinkers and diners leaving and folk wandering in having failed to recognise the virus compliance set up in front of the inn, a table from which the hard pressed staff member was doing his best to take orders, answer questions, go for change where money was offered!, and to and fro with the meals... well done that man.
He and his lady companion were also collecting the empty glasses that folk abandoned Willy Billy without any thought of making life easier for the staff entering their consciousness.
We were too late for the very nice looking fish and chips so took our seat outside and watched the performances of people out presumably in the splendid weather that the day brought. Rain must make for a more civilised time there......
I thanked the lady who was collecting glasses she thanked me but said it was long hours... not only here but elsewhere..l but you have to talk to the staff!!
Cycling territory par excellence here..l who hasn’t been stuck behind one of their peletons? For one to ring and announce that ten will be dropping in later l am sure would be fine with the front of house man! What else could he have said? The trouble is that twenty or thirty people had also dropped in so the arrival of ten at once would not have helped.
We found the front of house staff to be very reasonable, then again we are pretty virus aware and social distancing is second nature.
We saw people wandering past the table at the front, seemingly oblivious of the risks involved in close encounters of the Falcon Inn kind.
Hats off to the two front of house people and the chef in the back. Difficult times to be Running a pub alas but it will end!!
