totoco is great !! awesome food, personable people, great pool, solar powered cabins and beautiful views. the downside: the road leading up to totoco isn't great and they have a stray dog problem. great for unplugging.

We stayed 3 nights in July and rented Casa Istian the house on the property. The views were amazing from the roof top deck and the house was so spacious. The compost toilets, critters in the house and being somewhat isolated are mere distractions compared to the absolute quietness and beauty you will experience here. The food was fresh, healthy... We really loved the team at Totoco. Eric was very helpful and informative. We arrived a little late since we missed the earlier ferry, and still had the cooks accommodate us for dinner, which was really nice of them. He carried all of our luggages himself to our rooms. At check out, the founder introduced himself, he was a pleasure... More

I was very excited booking this trip from the US. The website and previous reviews were glowing. Not to mention the user posted photos. What I didn't realize was, all the beautiful user photos and very obviously the website were all of a beautiful lodge that once existed. When you first arrive the lodge, you are greeted with the Lodges... More

If done correctly this Eco resort could be a stunning hidden gem, unfortunately I think the owners have given up. The biggest problem we had was that the property has Eco toilets, meaning basically outhouses not flushing toilets, this was not disclosed on the website or by our travel agent and was a huge problem for my 73 year old... This place is awesome! Beautiful views from the rooms, bar AND pool, great drinks, delicious (if pricey) food. Staff is really friendly and it is worth the trek out to the isolated part of the island for this peaceful oasis. $30 taxi ride from Moyogalpa and a steep-ish 1.5 k road onto the compound that your taxi may or may... I stayed here at the end of November 2015 with my husband, mother and 2 year old son. This lodge is nestled up on the hill. It is a bit of a rough drive up, the road is extremely bumpy. Upon arriving we were greeted by our host and shown to our cabin. The cabins are very basic. There is... More

After reading about Totoco Eco Lodge in Conde Nast, expectations were high. The setting and views upon arrival were great. The ride from the ferry was about 45 minutes with the last 1.5 miles mostly uphill ( some of it paved, some of it rugged with rocks as pavement). The rooms do not have a/c but do have fans. The... Totoco catches the peaceful and mystical vibe of Ometepe island in all its essence. It is a paradise, for those who want to spend some time with nature. Our cabin, Tonatiu, was really big, clean and comfortable, with a huge bed repaired from mosquito nets and a beautiful terrace with hammocks overlooking Conception. It is built in a way that... Totoco has an unrivalled location overlooking the whole island and the volcanoes. Staff are really lovely, especially Eddie on the front desk who organized everything and was an absolute pleasure to chat to. The hike up Volcano Maderas was organized by a really professional guide, who had extensive knowledge of the flora & fauna. The hike was truly an incredible... More
