We Remember our stay at Ute and Mario’s with a big smile. We already miss the breakfast under the fig tree. Best foccaccia we ever tasted. Ute and Mario are very warm and welcoming. The house and garden are lovely and perfect for a quite stay in nature. Our stay was inviting to go back!
Following the tip of a friend, we made our way to Giardini di Marzo, to taste some olive oil. The travel was real challenge and I could only recommend to ask for a GPS target code. The official street address will lead you to a different place. Once arrived in the puglian middle of nowhere, we found an exceptional place, which our hosts Mario and Ute are building with a lot of passion over the past years. We had an eye opening degustation of olive oil and learned a lot about creating oil and rebuilding nature in a country, which has forgotten some its roots. If your heart is open and you want to see and enjoy more than post card Italy - this is your place. As this was only a day visit and cannot tell much about their B&B service. A peek into the kitchen was very promising. :)
We stayed at Ute and Mario's B&B in april for three nights and we absolutely loved it. We stayed in the 'small' room, which was really quite large for two and has a beautiful and comfortable bathroom, and a fireplace. It's away from the main tourists routes but the area and the towns nearby are just lovely. We especially liked Ceglie Messapica, and Lecce of course. But to be honest we spend the most time on the farm, reading books in the sun, cuddling with the dog Lilly and with the 7 donkeys. Mario and Ute were very nice and interesting to talk to, about living in Italy, food, music, the animals, organic gardening and olive farming. In the evenings we would go the village where we have had the most fantastic food. The place is a little remote, so I would advice to go here by car, or if you're a cyclist in need of some rest, I would also highly recommend this AirBnB, the surroundings are stunning.…
we spent one extremely relaxing and beautiful week with our charming hosts ute and mario. we had booked a cooking class, but we did not expect this amazing experience with this nice italian-german couple who taught us everything about beautiful apulia! they have built a charming hideaway in the middle of the apulian countryside, the perfect place to unwind in the beautiful garden, full of spring flowers and essential herbs with good company of 3 cats, 1 dog and 7 donkeys. in addition we learned how to make pasta and a whole variety of typical delicious apulian dishes. ute and mario are the perfect couple: mario (italian) teaches the cooking classes and serves you fantastic local wines and ute (german) is an expert tour guide who showed us her favorite places aside of the typical tourist paths and taught us a lot about the old messapian culture. a week full of nice experiences and unexpected highlights - we found messapian gold (by the way also the name of the delicious organic olive oil mario and ute produce from over 2000-year-old olive trees) in the apulian idyll -thanks for this wonderfull time - we will be back!…
I had the most wonderful time spending nine days with Ute & Mario in beautiful Apulia. It is quite remote, peaceful, but incredibly pretty! We have done a lot of trips in the area hiking and exploring historical sites, caves and canyons. There are lots of wild orchids to be found, in all different shapes and colours. - And after these wonderful trips, we spent the evenings with the awesome dinner, Mario did cook for us. Don't think I have ever eaten that well on a holiday. Homemade Italien food - and there are lots of tricks to learn from the chef. :-) - And before I forget, the donkeys living there are sooo adorable, always up for a cuddle, when you return home in the evenings. If you have not made up your mind yet, go for it! You will not regret it. - Silvia
