We camped here in November while bicycle touring around the Catlins. The weather was very wet, cold and windy and the owner advised us to camp in the day shelter for the night which was much appreciated. The facilities (kitchen and shower) were basic but at the time new facilities were being built. A great location at a good price...

We visited Curio Bay just in the afternoon and did not stay at the campground. We parked in the lot that indicated there was a petrified forest on the beach. We walked down and hunted around and found a few petrified logs. We then walked up to the top of the campground area where we could see Porpoise Bay. We...

We only stayed the one night in an unpowered tenting site but thought it was excellent here. It pays to get here early afternoon and set up as it gets quite busy later on. This is especially so if you have a bigger tent as there are only a few sites suited to the big tents. The facilities are excellent...

Great campsite in fantastic spot. There is now a brand new kitchen/laundry/shower/toilet block. Swam with dolphins and saw lots of yellow eyed penguins. Previous reviews have talked about the cost being too high. The campsite is run by the Catlins Community Trust and the money goes to a good cause, to help protect the area and wildlife that the visitors...

Great location, but camp facilities are very old. Suspect something political brewing over this property with tourism developers circling like sharks, meaning no money currently being spent on any upgrades. Scariest shower I have ever had in an old water tank with no light, at least the water was hot!

The most amazing spot, Steve was awesome close to beautiful beach spectacular cliffs 180 million year old fossilized forest, Dolphins penguins 😊 the campground was basic but protected from crazy weather- flushing toilets and a little shop for the basics

The natural beauty of this area is priceless. Local dolphins always within view and nearby for a swim, penguins to view at dusk, fossilised forests from the jurassic area. the entire area is fantastic. The camping ground itself is laid out well due to the fantastic flax surrounds that offer shelter and privacy. However, water ran out for the toilets...

A stunning destination to visit and although the actual little campsites are lovely with the large flaxes around each one to provide protection from the wind and give privacy the rest of the campground is sorely lacking. I didn't want to use the showers they are very old dingy concrete dirty looking shelters - very unappealing. The toilets were equally...

The flax palm shrubbery is definitely unique. There are sites with power. However, the other amenities as mentioned are not desirable. Toilets are dark and eerie, the shower room looks very run down and dirty. There are many garbage and recycling bins. The positives: the beaches are beautiful, go to the beach to see the yellow eyed penguins at sunset....

Whilst the place has stunning views, close to the petrified forest, a beautiful beach, and a chance to see yellow eyed penguins and hectors dolphins, it doesn't offer much in the way of amenities. For $20.00 a night I would expect much better facilities. The concrete showers and kitchen are basically rubbish. The kitchen is tiny and is in no...
