If you want to chill on a deserted beach all day and then play volleyball and party all night this is the place to come. Run by volunteers who create an awesome vibe. The only thing it's less good for is the surf, which is less reliable than further down the coast.

We stayed here with the hope to see sea turtles and luckily we did have the opportunity to help bury eggs from a poacher. Otherwise the place was FILTHY and the bug nets were all broken. There were BATS in our room every night. It was so dirty everywhere that some of the hammocks around the facility actually stunk. The food...

Beautiful place with lots going on. Yoga, horse riding on the beach, deep sea fishing, surfing, bodyboarding, workouts and more. The dorm room we were in was very basic and nothing to look at but the other was nice and you can rent a cabin on the beach for $5 extra. At night they get everyone integrated and involved with...

I stayed here one night(sadly) and is a very unique place, great beach, great enviroment and good food and drinks. It is solar powered and has its own farm for fresh food. On the nights the party is ON and they do bonfires by the beach. Is a total getaway and a must visit place in Leon. The beds are...

If your looking to truly chill out, do yourself a favor and head north to Rancho Esperanza at Playa Jiquillilo. Can't believe Lonely Planet rates this place as a must stay. When we got there they said it would be an hour before our room was ready so we said no problem we will sit here on the couch and...

Far and away the best hostel I've been to in Nica! Located right on the beach, miles away from civilisation, it felt like a tropical paradise. The resident surf guru and horse guide Willbert, will give you all the help you need to surf the waves and ride off into the sunsets. I was able to read books in the...

After traveling everywhere in Nicaragua I really think this is the best hostel I've come across. Good accommodation in the dorm, great food (try the Peruvian dishes!), the nicest staff, yoga classes (Thanks, Alejandro!), exercise classes for free, surfing crazy waves, horseback riding on the beach, volleyball every day, and games every night. The cherry on top is the deserted...

The people of the Surfing Turtle have build their own little paradise on an island near Poneloya. You have to travel there by boat and then your luggage will be caried in a horsecarrier. You can ride along! The people who run the place are awesome. I stayed there for 4 days, went to San Juan and went back, because...

Surfing Turtle has an absolutely beautiful location on a remote beach. However you are not allowed to bring outside food and drink, requiring you to eat all meals at their restaurant. The food was pretty expensive by Nicaraguan standards and ranged from average to poor. Between the two of us, we ordered six meals, four of which were incorrect. The...

Haven't really got a bad word to say about this place. We loved it from start to finish. The beach is beautiful and there are loads of places to chill during the day. The staff were super friendly and created a fun vibe. Volleyball daily and games in the evening. Anyone travelling to Nicaragua should spend a few days at...
