I'm surprised at the good reviews. We reserved on Booking.com for two triple rooms, then arrived and were shown nothing like our reservation. After showing proof from Booking.com they reluctantly moved one room. Both on the first floor by reception. Dirty, clogged showers. Weird smell. Tiny beds and one room with no air conditioning. Then we overheard locals being offered prices 20% less than what we paid. If you are average build or tall it's hard to fit on the toilet. Walls are thin and we could hear everything happening beside us.
We enjoyed a nice stay of two days in this small hotel very close to the city center of Comitan. Just a few steps away from the main square. We apreciated the friendly service, the delicious breakfast in the cafeteria and the possibility to park the car directly in front of the hotel for free. WLAN did work without problems in the room.
Extremely reasonable rates for the location. Room was clean - bed a little small (see "helpful tips"). Small courtyard. No problem getting internet anywhere on property. We arrived during a festival week with fireworks going off all day/night. Would recommend traveling with ear plugs. We drove to Comitan and had GPS but with road construction, one way streets and some nightly activities at the square, you might want to consider printing off a map with detailed directions ~ address can be difficult to locate. Practice your Spanish - very little English spoken here. Nice little coffee shop/restaurant on site.
On the plus side, this is a very clean hotel. It feels new. Rooms and bathrooms are well-maintained. The location is great, just a couple of blocks from the park. On the downside, the rooms have no fan or a/c and just a tiny window. A fan would be a great addition for air circulation and noise management. Also, this is a small hotel and sound proofing isn't the greatest. Two nights in a row, there were two neighboring rooms with their TV at the loudest volume at 2am. Our room was vibrating from the noise. Perhaps implementing a quiet time between 11pm and 7am would be helpful. Overall, it is a good choice if the hotel isn't busy. If its at full capacity, you might not get any sleep.
Modern, modest size rooms, more than enough for "minimalists". Nice fixtures, very clean, great bed, flat screen TV with an English movie channel, strong internet in room, lots of hot water. Two blocks off central plaza. Comitan was a very pleasant city, rivaling San Cristobal which is 1.5 collectiva ride away. Good pricing @ 400 MX.
