My stay started on the right foot. It seemed like everything was going to be OK. Check-in- no problem, friendly people. However as soon as I got to my room, things started going downhill. The room was very, very warm and it smelled like sewage from the bathroom. To cool it down there was a portable air conditioning unit inside the room. The noise that thing made, made it impossible to keep it on at night, so sleep was not great. The bathroom was very small, with no room for my toiletries, so I had to take them out of the bathroom after taking a shower and after brushing my teeth at night. The internet, barely worked inside the guestrooms, and in the lobby area was as slow as a 2003 dial-up. However, the worst part was on the second night (Saturday Night) the hotel had booked two events (a party and a wedding). Unfortunately they only have one space that can be used for parties without bothering the gusts. The wedding happened to take place in the pool/bar area. As it happens, my kids' room faced that exact area and the music at 11PM was at full volume. After complaining to the front desk, the response was that the party will be over in just a few minutes, the contract expired at 11 (thanked them for giving me notice of the potential noise situation). At 11:45 PM, after going to the reception 4-5 times to complain and getting the same (by this time ridiculous answer), asked to talk to the manager, who was very busy on the phone and did not even look at me or make a sign acknowledging my presence. Finally at midnight the music was done, but people still lingered and talked for another hour in that area (no thanks to anyone at the hotel). Needless to say, mi kids had to sleep in my room and I had not much sleep that night.…
We got to the hotel just after xmas, the hotel was packed. And tho the staff was really kind, the hotel facilities are not good. The wifi is not enough for the guests, its really slow. We had no hot water, they sayed there was a problem with the heater. The bathroom smelled bad, and the extra bed was thin and the beading poor. The staff at the bar seamed unexperienced and slow. We are relaxed, and didn't complain much and had a good time at comitan, but the hotel defenetly not the best.
Out Travel Guide Book recommended this hotel as the best of Comitan. My personal impression was that it is ok, but nothing special. It is well located in the center, has an inside pool, but the room we got was average. Same with the food. So if you just want to stay overnight during your journey through Chiapas it's fine, for a longer stay I would search for another hotel, e.g. Hacienda Santa Maria
We only stayed at Comitán because it is close to the Montebello lagunas and El Chiflon waterfalls and saw no other good alternative. At first glance the hotel looks charming but what a disappointment : our room, what they called a jr. suite was on 2 levels with the bed on the upper level and bathroom on the lower one, with a difficult staircase between the two. The roof on the upper level was so low we kept on hitting it. The worse part is that they rented the restaurant that was just under our room for a party at night that ended after midnight and also for breakfast at 8am, we couldn't believe it. When we checked out I complained about it and got only a 5% discount on the really high price. I would never go back!
We booked a night pretty much a day or two before heading to Comitan. Based on the guidebooks description it said it was the best hotel in Comitan, and while we didn't stay at any of the other hotels there, we were more than surprised by how great it is. It's easy to miss if driving, and parking, well, may be challenging due to the narrow streets, however an every vigilant valet boy came up, took our bags, and parked the car at an offsite lot. Checking in was easy, staff very polite and professional and they have happy hour!! WOO!! The hotel is colonial style and as such there are no elevators. That kind of sucked, but it is what it is. Décor is simple, clean, and overall well maintained. The rooms are spacious, with a nice TV and multiple channels, and wife/kids loved the pool. The bathroom was huge for a hotel of this era, very clean and modern, with all the little amneties like soap, shampoo, lotion, hair drier, etc. (many of the hotels at the same price point didn't offer all of this). Oh and the room had A/C. The hotel is located a few short blocks from the main square, and is easy to get to and from. Breakfast is included in the rates for 2 people, we just paid a very reasonable price for the 3rd person in our family. Overall it was my favorite hotel of our trip through Chiapas. Wish we had stayed 2 or 3 days in Comitan. So much to do and enjoy in this little gem of a town.…
