Stayed here in April 2012 (yes, this review is long overdue!) with partner and toddler. Emailed them directly in both Italian and English (Italian portion thanks to the help of Google Translate). There was no charge for the toddler and a playpen/travel baby bed was kindly provided in the room. They had put us in one end of the corridor...

I am a regular visitor to Venice and had stayed in several convents and monasteries in Venice before. This convent is simply the best. The location is superb – 2 vaporetto stops within 5 minute walking distance (Salute and Zattere) in a quiet neighborhood only one vaporetto stop away from the bustling Piazza San Marco. The convent is beautiful, well-maintained,...

My daughter and I stayed at the Convent Guest House of the Suore di Salesie in Venice for 2 nights in June 2011. I booked the accommodation through www.monastery.com. The booking process through monastery.com seemed lenghty and intimidating at first. I gave up finishing my reservation a couple times after I read the instructions. But I did it finally and...

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
