I’m currently checked in at OBBR. 1. The beach by the resort (Dawn Beach) is COVERED IN SEAWEED, which not only makes in impossible to get into the water, but you can’t even walk on the beach without that horrible smell. I came here because I wanted a beach within walking distance, this was a big disappointment, but of course, why would the resort tell people about the seaweed? It would be bad marketing on their part, but I wish someone had written about this on a review page and I would’ve booked somewhere else. 2. The car rental service affiliated with the resort, and located in the lobby (Dollar Thrifty Car Rental [the irony, huh?]) charges 2x or more for rentals, please do not use them and make the mistake my husband and I did. We were literally robbed, but my husband is too kind and didn’t feel like making a big deal about it once we were told by other visitors at the resort how much cheaper they got their rentals online at places like Priceline. 3. I didn’t think being on the other side of the island would be an inconvenience, but there is literally nothing to do within walking distance of this resort. If you are looking to just stay in the resort, be by the pool (cause you can’t use the beach) and eat from the same 2 restaurants (Infinity and Big Fish) then this will not be a issue, otherwise you should reconsider staying here. You will have to get a rental (just don’t use the one affiliated to the resort, like I said above). Staff is friendly, just don’t count of room service. I’ve been making my own bed and taking out my garbage. But, as nice as the staff is, I won’t be coming back.

Response from Ricardo Perez, General Manager at Oyster Bay Beach Resort

We are very sorry that your are staying with us during a week where the beach is seeing an influx of seaweed. As you may have noticed we clean the beach on a daily basis trying to applicate as best as possible. Luckily there are many other beaches on the island that are totally clear for your enjoyment. In regards to your experience with the car rental will have our concessionaire contact you so you can discuss your concerns directly to them. Please note that other car rentals do not offer the airport pick up and drop off, in addition to many other considerations that have an impact on pricing. Since, you are still staying with us will be contacting you to see how we can make sure the rest of your stay becomes a pleasant one.

We had an amazing stay here!! We absolutely loved it and can’t wait to come back! Ricardo, the manager, and his staff were excellent and made sure every guest was very well taken care of! Charming resort with gorgeous views and they make you feel at home the second you arrive. If you’re looking for a little piece of heaven in Sint Maarten this is the place to stay!

Like many of you, 2020 stopped our travel so this visit to St. Martin (SXM) in May 2021 was refreshing despite the added delays of processing travelers coming into the island and then returning to the USA. Give yourself lots of extra time and pack your patience. The travel experience has changed. Enough said about that. The staff at this resort was friendly and professional. Especially the housekeepers, who are the backbone of every resort that we have ever visited. Masks are worn in all inside areas, and they have a temperature machine that you walk up to in the lobby-reception area. Also a doctor comes on Wednesday-Thursday to offer the needed Rapid test for re-entry into the USA. Take extra cash with you. And read the requirements carefully. Disclosure: we lived on the island for 6 years, and Oyster Bay Resort was one of our favorite one day lunch and pool destinations. Now we go back often because we love the suites and the views! The areas hit hard in 2017 by the hurricane are open and wonderful, but there are still properties needing repair. It takes time. But your visit can be the dream that you are looking for with a little planning and research. Both the French and the Dutch side are open. A rental car can help you access nearby grocery stores like Bread and Butter in Oyster Pond, and restaurants like Oasis which is next door. Enjoy!

This place is a 4.5 star on the rating scale that McDonalds is a 4 star restaurant in Texas. It has a nice view from the ocean view rooms but the place is old and run down. The beach is horrific at beach. It would be nicer looking if they didn’t have one. The pool is a nice idea but looks like it was done in 1970. The restaurant and bar is nice looking but the restaurant service is a nightmare. 3 hours for soup, risotto and creme Brûlée. To top all, was told that the waitress had to made the creme brûlée since there isn’t another chef on staff to do it. Paid $10 for burnt cold creme brûlée 🤦‍♂️. If you told me this resort was a senior complex in a small Florida beach town, I’d say it was a 3*, for you to tell me this is a 4.5* Caribbean resort is a straight out lie! The Vidanta Grade Luxxe and Marriott Aruba Surf Club are 4.5* resorts, look at them and come to this dump than tell me they are in par! 4.5* used to mean luxury but there is ZERO luxury here!

This was a very safe and good getaway as we are hopefully in the tail end of this pandemic. The staff was friendly and helpful. It was Easter so many places that I would have liked to have gone were observing the holiday and not open. But the trip was great and the weather was beautiful!
