Detailed Reviews
My partner and I just booked a one night stay here now that hotels and restaurants are allowed to reopen. The staff were so welcoming and accommodating, they all stuck to social distancing, there there were plenty of hand sanitizing stations around and the hotel and restaurant were spotlessly clean so we both felt very at ease and comfortable staying here. The hotel is set in a beautiful remote location but is only a short car journey from town. The bed was so comfy, I had a really great nights sleep. We had dinner in the restaurant which was so fantastic, we then booked in for breakfast the following morning because the food was SO good. I would definitely return and cannot praise this place highly enough. It was lovely. Thank you

A nicely appointed/converted country manor house with only 14 rooms, split by tiny, standard, large and suite sizes. We stayed in a Large room as a young family which was plentiful for our needs, well decorated, clean and spacious to spend time in. Anything smaller, may well be disappointed depending on the room rate you pay and what you may look to expect, looking at the photo's and reviews.
Lovely country position just outside of Malton, a beautiful Yorkshire town which we unfortunately didn't have time to get to.
This isn't a large country hotel with tens of staff bustling around to your every need. They work on what I'd call a minimal floor cover strategy with what limited staff that are working there, really earning their penny! Special shout out to Bobby who juggled balls throughout our short stay, but always stayed calm and professional and ultra-efficient.
The dinner menu looked amazing, but looked an ask unless you had a Michelin chef with extensive kitchen team and alas, wasn't the strongest point for us this time around. However, the breakfast served us really well.
It's not the 5 star experience that you may see in some of the Cotswolds offerings, but then again you aren't paying those extortionate prices, so adjust your expectations to suit and enjoy this cosy little Yorkshire getaway.

After a long an successful days shooting at nearby Raisthorpe Manor a warm and friendly reception awaited our shooting party, the house was absolutely stunning with well kept gardens and grounds in a beautiful setting. The rooms were well equipped and absolutely spotlessly clean, the showers were outstanding like standing under a waterfall…so refreshing. We all ate in the restaurant and were more than satisfied with the outstanding quality and quantity of the food, I can recommend the sardines and the venison, cooked to perfection.
Well done Alison and your team on providing sterling customer service as a business owner I know how important it is to provide this and sometimes how difficult.
Thank you.
We will return next year

The hotel is in a wonderful, peaceful setting, with a lovely small village pub within walking distance. The public areas are comfortable and well-appointed. The food, if a little over-priced for dinner, is delicious and well-presented. Breakfast was very good with several options and flexible choices. Our room, Rosedale, was spacious but the beds weren’t very comfortable and the wet room flooded terribly to the point we thought the carpet outside the bathroom was going to get wet as well. The water from showers took all evening to drain away, leaving the floor dangerously slippery in the meantime. You couldn’t put anything on the floor whilst showering as it would’ve been soaked. As friendly as the staff were, they couldn’t answer questions about the local area or which soft drinks were available in the bar. And don’t go expecting a pool as it has been removed, even though it is still advertised as available on the hotel literature and outside signage. I would stay again but definitely ask for a different room!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent stay at the house, guest feedback is always welcome. Your comments regarding the room have very much been taken on board and we have temporarily closed the room down and a plumber will be looking at the shower tomorrow. Unfortunately a decision has been made to close the pool due to the health and safety risk that keeping it open involves during the current situation, we are awaiting a date from our sign maker as to when they will reopen and be able to remove the wording from our signage, we have also removed it from all third party information wherever possible and it will not feature on our new brochure. In regards to the staffs lack of knowledge about that is something we can work on but as a local resident I would have been delighted to have shared my knowledge of the local area so if you do decide to stay with us again please do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have. With Kindest Regards Alison Gaskell General Manager @ Burythorpe House Hotel

Having researched Burythorpe House, I was aware that the hotel was possibly a bit upmarket for two cyclists cycling the Yorkshire Wolds for four days & carrying all of their gear in two small panniers but booked it as it suited our itinerary perfectly. Despite entering a bit wet & windswept we were made to feel immediately welcome by Darren who stored our bicycles & showed us to our room which was small but fine for our limited needs. A drink in the beautiful lounge & food in the restaurant; we were both more than satisfied with the menu & what we consumed. A lovely breakfast in the morning & we were off again into a headwind but thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

A very elegant and comfortable hotel near Malton, offering excellent food and accommodation. Staff are all friendly and helpful. The only thing I would suggest is that fresh vegetables are offered with the main course. Serving a matured fillet steak, for example, with just vine tomatoes and mushrooms....no potatoes/chips/onion rings plus fresh greens.....is rather underwhelming for the price.
Perhaps this is something that could be considered in future?

The room we had was wonderful. Large super king bed, great mattress and down pillows. The bathroom was modern and spacious and the separate kidney shaped bath a treat for those who enjoy a bath. The room was spotless. The grounds are well kept and would be delightful to pass time in , weather allowing.
Location is remote, but close enough to Malton and York, by car.
Breakfast was ok , but not spectacular. Fruit salad was fresh. Juices were basic and the bread used for toast a shade tastier than carboard. Eggs benedict were good.
Given the price of the room, I would expect a better breakfast. We did not eat any other meals there.

+1
We received a voucher for a dinner, bed and breakfast stay at Burythorpe House. When I rang to book at very short notice there were no superior rooms left but there was one luxury one remaining. I asked how much it would be to upgrade, the loveliest person named Alison who I believe is the manger, said in times like this we need to be kind to each other and she gave us a complimentary upgrade. What a fantastic gesture and lovely person! When we arrived the weather was not great but the venue was certainly fantastic. We enjoyed a lovely drink in the lounge area before having a fantastic dinner.
Such a great place in a lovely part of the world and the staff are truly brilliant! Thank you!

I just had my birthday luncheon here with family and friends, about 30 people including children. It was absolutely perfect, attentive friendly staff, lovely space as we had the sitting room and adjoining dining room for sole use, The food was great and very reasonably priced. My grandchildren were made to feel very welcome and loved playing in the gardens. I cannot fault anything about our day and highly recommend Burythorpe House to anyone .

Other than the short stroll up to the view from the church on the hill, I’m afraid I don’t know of any.
As I am not vegan I really cannot comment but the staff at the hotel are really helpful and I am sure if you speak to them they will give you a very honest answer.
There was no fridge or mini bar in the room but the staff are really accommodating so maybe they would put it in the kitchen or bar fridge.
They have very good kitchen staff, maybe you should just ring and ask to be certain?
Yes wheelchair access to both and there is a downstairs room as well.
