Hotel location is far from city center. Hotel amenities are very limited. Even tooth brush is missing. No kettle, water, teapots. We have chosen this hotel because of Accor Hotel Groups but faced awful service and coziness. Not recommended at all!

The hotel is outside the city centre which is great if you have a car but not so easy if you don't. There is parking around the hotel and also an underground car park. The hotel is modern and the rooms spacious. We had inter-connecting rooms which is great if you have children. The rooms have a safe, fridge, TV and air con but no tea/coffee making facilities. The wi-fi was very good in all the rooms. The bathroom has soap, shower gel, shampoo, body lotion and body milk, shower cap, hairdryer and a shaving mirror with good magnification on one side. The breakfast was very good with a lot of choice. The restaurant has limited choices for dinner and nothing suitable for young children. The bar has a food menu but nothing was available on all the evenings we were there. We asked for sandwiches which were very well presented with crisps but they were taken from the machine selling them in reception, not made freshly! The staff are friendly and helpful, particularly the man who ran the bar.

It is not in the wilderness, but it is far from the city center. It has outdoor parking (free, but not too big) and indoor parking (on request). Quite large, modern hotel, with nice and relatively luxurious rooms, fully equipped, nice bathroom and indoor pool. The staff are polite and wi-fi free. As for the breakfast, the first of the two days we stayed was great, with a huge variety, but the second had a lot less stuff and a small amount. I guess there was a problem in the kitchen, because this difference is not justified. With the exception of this fact, the hotel is a good choice.

This hotel is out of the city of Bologna and not very well connected if you aren’t fit enough for some walking, but please read on. We got a great deal through BA, £171 each for three nights, including breakfast and flights for two people from LHR! Very good. You’ll need to get a taxi (25€ each way) or the bus which is a 15 minute walk and 2€ each way if you wish to be in Bologna city. The bus stop is in Via Golinelli, opposite the cafe on the corner of the street. Bus number 89. You pay using coins only on a machine in the bus. For the city, get off at Piazza Magpighi and walk from there. Step off bus, turn to your right, cross the road at the crossing, under the arch and follow into the centre of the city, maybe 10-15 minutes walk. It is easy but allow an hour between leaving the hotel and arriving at Piazza Maggiore. Bus 89 is every 30 mins, hotel have timetables, but roughly 15 and 45 past the hour. The hotel serves a great breakfast, lots of choice. The pool is indoor and small in size but perfect for a cool down. There are a few fitness machines by the poolside and towels for swimming, as well as a few wooden relaxing chairs. The bedrooms are good, a decent size, beds comfortable and all you need. There is a hairdryer, shower gel and shampoo are replaced daily. There is a mini fridge in the room. No hot drinks facilities in the room so I’d suggest taking coffee sachets or teabags as you can help yourself to hot water in reception. The room key provides electricity so you can’t charge your phone while you’re at breakfast, try to remember to do it overnight. It was 32 degrees here and the room’s air con was excellent, we slept in complete comfort. On our first day, we walked around to ExtraCoop supermarket, (look for Q8 fuel station and find entrance to mall opposite) and stocked up on water and snacks for the room. We had dinner at 480GRADI next to Burger King which was very good. We also enjoyed 2 evening meals at Gustavo in the shopping mall. The huge bowls of pick-and-mix salads for 6.10E are so, so delicious and the ‘bowl’ is a massive tortilla, which my child thought was brilliant! We then popped into ExtraCoop to find a cheeky pudding, ice cream or a cream bun, some chocolate... Back to Bologna again, it’s worth knowing that there is a drinking water fountain and bottle refill next to the Neptune Fountain in Piazza Maggiore so you needn’t keep buying water in the city, just refill your bottles there. Another note on transport. The Aerobus between the airport and city is of little use to you if you are staying at this hotel. The walk from the closest city stop that the Aerobus makes to the centre of Bologna is a hot and heavy 20 mins plus with suitcases! I had the brainwave to get the Aerobus to the city then taxi to the hotel but this cost me a lot more than a taxi from the airport straight to the hotel would have done. Look on a map and you’ll see why I thought this might be a good option. The Aerobus is 6€ one way person so cost me 12€ then I paid 20€ once we had found a taxi which was long winded. A taxi would have been 25€. Oh well, you win some, you lose some. Overall, a great stay. I feel that three days is enough for Bologna unless you’re using it as a base for surrounding cities. There is lots to see but as I had a seven year old with me, we swerved most of the heavy culture, just a few churches and no museums, mostly city tour land-trains and ice creams, climbed the tower, explored the library, cafe stops, saw fountains and porticos, markets... We spent six hours in the city, three days in a row, then had a hotel day, pool and chilling on the last day. When I asked the hotel reception to book me a taxi for 4.30pm the following day, he asked what we were going to do after we’d checked out at 11. I said just kind of hang around, play games and read, walk off for an ice cream etc. He said we could stay in our room until 1pm if we liked and even continue using the pool and other facilities right up until we leave for no extra charge. Very kind. I hope this review helps some of you wishing to stay at the NH Bologna Villanova. I forgot, super friendly and helpful hotel staff, everything so clean!

We had booked this hotel through the British Airways holiday deal so got a very good price. We knew the hotel was quite isolated so it was not a surprise. Hotel is lovely and fresh and clean, great room and excellent breakfast. Unfortunately the bar and restaurant were closed for the time we were there which was a surprise. Luckily there is a huge shopping Mall about four minutes walk away (via a shortcut behind the hotel) which has a good selection of shops and cafes as well as an enormous Supermarket which sells everything. As we had no car, we were given very good information on how to use local transport - bus 89 - which was about a 15 minute walk from the hotel - get tickets from Tabacchi shops, less than 2 Euro.
