Found this delightful inn on a day out to Sulgrave. What a pleasant surprise! The pub itself is a lovely mix of tradition, nostalgia, quirky and artistic with something of interest in every corner. The landlord was very affable without being ingratiating . He seemed to genuinely like people. as it was a warm day I didn't want loads to... More

In a beautiful part of England, the Star Inn was a fantastic find. Everything you imagine from a traditional country Inn, and we were lucky enough to be there on a Wednesday when the menu is priced at £5.00 per head. Look, this is not fine dining - it is however fresh local (and some home grown) "pub grub" that... More

We have visited this country family pub several times before, every time they have been warm welcoming and have exceptional service with incredible food and drink. Due to this, we chose to have our wedding reception here. This was really the best day of our lives, not just for the occasion, but it was made so easy for us by... More

Booked a room whilst doing field work in the area and completing some long reports in the evening. Had a fantastic stay, Paul and Sue were wonderfully welcoming hosts and cooked a mighty fine breakfast and dinner. Came here on business and by the time I left I felt more relaxed than I ever have done after a week at... More

Our room was ready and waiting when we arrived early at 10.30 am - extraordinary!! We were greeted warmly; nothing was too much trouble; fresh milk was brought up for us for a cup of tea whilst my daughter and I dressed for the wedding we were attending at Sulgrave Manor; later wine. We slept soundly in comfortable and warm... More

I've eaten here twice and each time the food was absolutely on point. The fish dishes are especially delicious with unusual choices on offer. The home made cakes were a lovely touch, and their choice of fancy teas was a lovely afternoon pick me up! Great beers on tap also. The staff are some of the friendliest I've ever come... More

16 for lunch early in February: ages 10 to 75, from an extended family. All the food was good, or better than good, and the service was attentive, accurate and good natured, so I think that everyone left the Star feeling both well-fed and happy. The barman has a great beard, and the Inn has really good morale and comforts.... More

A large family party had lunch at the star last Sunday. We ranged in age from 88 years to 3 months. We had a lovely time. The service was friendly and not intrusive.we were warned that things might take time due to their having a small kitchen and us being a big party. Having said that they coped pretty well... More

An impromptu visit with family for lunch, first time and really enjoyed it. Welcome was excellent, food was varied, fresh and cooked really well. Lots of character, bar area, restaurant area with snugs etc- bordering on quirky. Seems like a locals place as well but no sense of any cliques and visitors welcomed. Dogs allowed on leads, games provided for... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The three hundred year old 'Star Inn' sits in an idyllic village on the borders of South Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire, ideally located for visiting the many attractions available in the heart of England or simply escaping for a peaceful and relaxing weekend in the country. Believed to be the only know pub to be visited by the legendary actor John Wayne whilst on tour of nearby Sulgrave Manor, the ancestral home of the first president of the United States George Washington. On a visit to Sulgrave in 1889 the honourable William Taft, Chief Justice of America said, "Sulgrave is a charming little spot only hidden in the loveliness of its seclusion, with the old Star inn by the roadside a relic of bygone days when comforts were plain and ale was plenty." The Star is where people matter and whether you are staying in one of our comfortable en-suite bedrooms, dining in the oak beamed restaurant or just having a drink you will be made to feel welcome by all the staff who will ensure your time with us is enjoyable. Gillie and Barry welcome friends old and new. ... more   less
