This is a small but very friendly hotel staff excellent and we had our evening meal and the variety on the menu good and service good I would recommend this hotel because it's close to Durham and a BUS STOP outside so we parked up and used it

I used to travel on the local bus past this pub as a kid (years ago!!) and it didn't look much then - so it was with some caution that we tried it out. Well I'd say it was worth a visit. The £9.95 two course special was well worth it (inc a glass of wine or 1/2 beer). The... More

If you're looking for a venue to hold a wedding reception then you should really consider The Avenue at High Shincliffe . We were just married on Saturday 15th October and held our reception here. Alan made us a fantastic 3 course menu for us and guests, and it was superb. Fantastic choices and the food was delicious 😊. Beautiful... More

Stayed here for one night with my son before Durham University open day. Both rooms were good and had everything we needed. Ate in the restaurant that night - food was excellent although portions too big for us ! Breakfast next morning was also good. Good value overall and would stay there again. Only thing to be aware of is... More

We had 2 rooms for 1 night. Both were clean and modern with the smaller single especially quaint. Food in the restaurant was fine with decent ales on offer. Full English breakfast was superb. Great location for visiting Durham City

Having seen good reviews, went here for Saturday lunch. Arrived just after opening time we were prompted seated and served with drinks while we viewed the venue. Choice was a bit limited but adequate for lunchtime. Food was obviously cooked to order as we had to wait a little while, but was worth it. Very good value for money. Car... More

Booked an overnight as a break whilst travelling from the south to Scotland. Sunday roast was excellent. Beware though they do stop service at 6.00pm on Sundays. Our room was modern, clean and tidy. The bed very comfortable. The Staff were very friendly and helpful. It was so good that before we left we booked at night on our return... More

I did inform the staff that residents could get served after 6 pm and am appalled that the message did not get through to you I am the chef and am always on site so the cooking of food would not have been an issue Especially the sunday in question as i knew you were at the great north run.... Situated just outside Durham city it is a lovely village and easy access and parking for the visitor to Durham and also a short bus ride from the city centre.for those who want to see a little more of the area. The menu is varied and they happily... More
