The grounds, outside of the hotel and lobby are good. You expect restrictions due to COVID- that is also fine. What is not is the poor state of repair the lifts, corridors, changing rooms and bedrooms are in. There are signs everywhere mentioning ‘elite hotels’- have a look at the attached photos and see if it meets your definition of elite. Dirty bathroom- mould around windows that don’t close- fridge that doesn’t work- peeling wallpaper... just not good enough
We booked this as a couples weekend away as our anniversary, and chose to stay here as always had a pleasant stay when previously owned by Marriott. However, upon arrival we found our room hadn’t been properly cleaned, leaving a sweet stuck to the floor, along with mud over the carpet and bed side tables that hadn’t been wiped down, which left us feeling very uncomfortable in the current circumstances. After complaining, we were moved to a family room which was handled well by the young friendly receptionist. However, this was followed by small instances including our TV remote having no batteries as well as poorly cleaned lifts and many noise disturbances throughout the night. Furthermore, we were required to wait over 20 minutes along with many other guests to be seated at breakfast despite booking a slot at arrival, and then waited another 20 minutes to be served with a barely hot full English breakfast. They were very clearly under staffed which as a waitress I understand, meaning the long waits cannot be blamed on the staff. However, the way we were spoken to didn’t appear to be friendly or welcoming. We overheard another guest complaining about this at reception, in which he received a dismissive response from a different receptionist, who wasn’t as friendly as the previous one. Upon checkout, she also failed to ask us how our stay was. This hotel does have many positive aspects, the building itself along with the pool and spa facilities are lovely, but time slots should be managed better as many people overstayed their pool times, leaving it over crowded. Overall, we were disappointed with our stay as we know how great this hotel used to be, and still could be if management improved and updated the hotel.…
Could not fault the staff, all super helpful and friendly. Food was delicious and very impressive portions. The grounds were stunning. Rooms and communal areas all clean. Leisure area and swimming pool gleaming. Had a very relaxing time here, thanks :)
My partner and I booked a getaway stay-cation and we had a lovely experience throughout the 3 days of our visit! The receptionist Louise Woolston was really friendly and had great energy even though we checked in quite late in the evening! She explained where everything was and apologised beforehand that there was no milk in the whole hotel if we wanted some for our morning coffee! She was super lovely and had remembered us so every time we passed by reception she would smile and say hello! The hotel was clean and lovely!
Considering the rules they have to work under at the moment they did an excellent job. The room was excellent. Danni in Reception and James in the Pool were excellent and are a credit to the organisation. They couldn't have been more helpful. Will definitely go again.
