Avoid this place like the plague. I was recommended this hotel by Hotels.com as my hotel was cancelled at the last minute. Description: As we drove through the very large grounds I was astonished that the area/plants were overgrown and un-kept. There was a pergoda, I believe was described for Yoga, totally not this was boarded up. Laundry was cramped up in a room and was on show. This was the start of trying to relocate myself from the Bougainvilla to elsewhere. . 1. On entering the room it had a very odd mouldy smell. 2. We then found out the stove was leaking gas. The maintenance chap checked it out and said yes. I could only imagine what could of happened if we stayed the night. 3. No hot water. 4. Kitchen cupboards are worn and no decent cutlery/utensils/plates etc. This is sold on site as a kitchenette 5. Sink rusty, I definitely would not put anything in the fridge. 6. Shower area / basin / bathroom / disgusting and dirty, marks up the wall near the toilet area, dirty toilet brush. 7. The wardrobe was dirty. 8. Insects behind the sofa, bed linen looked un-kept 9. Although there was an overhead/fan light was unusable. 10. Received electric shock from the socket. All in all this is substandard hotel for the cost they were charging, please do not believe the photos you see on this site. Receptionist was no help either, we did complain but it was ignored. Bourganvilla are happy to take your money but do not like to give refund. It took me a month after complaints with Hotels.com to receive the refund after sending photos and going to the top. Avoid this hotel. This is not a fake review, this is my true account of the Bougainvilla Hotel. In the end I relocated myself to the Islanders Inn whereby I had a very enjoyable holiday.

I went to place after going to several restaurants on the day of a notorious storm watch..I was not to be sidetracked by a little wind..I was on my vacay...I went to my goto spot from 2 years ago(Anchorage Y Club )that I went last time I was on Union, but the waitstaff seemed consumed with their phones and free WiFi..So after sitting at the bar for about 15 minutes without anyone asking me what I wanted.I just walked the f____ out of that place.I walked next door to Bougainvilla....I was greeted by to enchantingly beautiful women..The beautiful local bartender and one of the owners Alize...I would have probably paid for tap water (but the had Corona so I had to settle for that) just to be in the presence of these 2 women..This place is ambrosia for those that are hungry for that different Caribbean adventure...BTW you must try their conch pizza...don't knock it till you tried it...I could say so much more.,but I am busy figuring out how I will US and and be able to enjoy this place for eternity...

My husband and I enjoyed dining and lounging at their restaurant. It is by far the best dining in Clifton. The owners daughter did a wonderful job in making our dining experience in Clifton, Union Island very nice. The atmosphere, food and service by classy local ladies is star quality. It is a great gathering place for charter sailors, scuba divers and kite boarders. It has a nice dock and views of the harbor. We did take a look at the rooms and did not stay, as the rooms themselves need updating, did not have views and not too clean. It is not uncommon for a part of the rooms in Clifton to not have air conditioning, so that was not a concern, but certainly mosquitoes are. Overall, if this hotelier cleaned it up and updated their rooms they would be nice to stay in, as the hotel has a nice charm to it. There are not many nice places to stay in Clifton for a decent price though.

We stayed for six nights. Upon our arrival, we were told that our tv was not working. Did not phase us because we are not big tv watchers. No air conditioning in sitting area. A noticeable unpleasant odor when you walk in. Thank goodness the bedroom has AC. Most places in the Caribbean - we don't turn on the air because we enjoy the breeze. We couldn't open the doors to the back of the apartment. Why? Because A) the locals across the way use the open land to dispose of their trash. B) the view is of a storage container that you see on ships and a family cemetery plot. There are no screens and the mosquitoes were swarming. No telephone in the room to contact the front desk. NO shampoo NO soap Ladies take notice NO blow dryer. They have an iron that you can borrow from housekeeping NO wifi in the room The kitchen is barely stocked. NO napkins NO paper towels. Mismatched dishes and utensils. The mattress is dense foam placed on a made platform. The mattress covers were disgusting and the comforter looked like it had never been washed.
