Well maintained and managed hotel in a beautiful environment, just a stone’s throw away from Budapest / 1 hour drive /. Room was spotlessly clean, with quality bathroom amenities. We run into a once in a while BBQ show on their terrace, where Chef Sándor and guest Chef Zsolt served 10 of us within minutes with such a delicious meal, prepared in his own Bodrog Smoker, we were really impressed. Helpful staff everywhere, all in all highly recommended for a short break or even for a longer visit.

We just spent the weekend at Lifestyle Hotel Matra and we were provided exellent service by the staff! All employees smiled at us all the time and were ready to provide us whatever we needed.
We started the day with the sauna, had breakfast, and then went to enjoy the fresh air outside. There are several easy trails in the forest and you can explore 2 fountains after a slow one-hour-walk. The hotel provides you with several programs: forest walks in the morning, aerobics, special sauna treatments (free), and they have programs for the children as well so the parents can relax a bit as well. We spent the afternoons relaxing in the spa, but if you want, you can rent a segway, bikes and other sport equipment from a shop nearby.
Food was also excellent, everything tasted well. For breakfast they prepare you your eggs fresh as required by a 4-star-hotel. The first dinner was a bit too Hungarian for me, but the second night there was plenty to choose from. They bake their own bread. We had caesar salad at the pool bar for lunch, which tasted good, only it was not a very big portion, some more lettice would have been nice.
The only thing I missed was a small cold water pool for cooling down after the sauna, elsewise everything was perfect.

On arrival we were impressed with what we saw but each day that went by we were dissapointed. Dinner buffet's were extremely dissapointing. Each night the food just seemed to have gotten worse. Salmon over cooked and bland, asparagus over cooked and mushy, the game meat dry and served with a watery kind of berry sauce which was missing that wild berry taste, rice over cooked, nokedli raw, and it just got worse each night. Overall the food was either over cooked, under cooked, or dry. What was surprising that the ingredients used were of good quality, but the way it was all prepared was just terrible.

The rooms were not serviced properly, first day, no vacuum cleaning, didnt replace the soap dispenser which was almost empty on arrival, nor did they repalce the toiletries used. Second day they left the used coffee cups unwashed and didnt replenish the coffee pods which you have to pay for, didnt replace the dirty towels...

The pool area - if you looking to relax / calmness, then this is not the place to be.

Overall? Overpriced for what we got! We will not be going back!

Me and my girlfriend we spent a weekend here. This place was so depressing we actually got scared and on the second night and we cannot fall asleep for a long time. The staff were acting like robots. The design of the furnishing was like in the 80s. After dinners my girlfriend got stomach ache somehow, on the breakfast the bakery wasn't fresh at all. The dinner tasted okay. The wellness is really small, the water was quite cold, and on the winter the outside sauna?? and pool is closed. We liked the sauna inside bit that's all. We were happy to leave. Not recommended!

It is very hard to believe that a hotel that has Lifestyle attribute added to it's name does not live up to the standard it has to have.
Very sad situation with the restaurant staff. None of them speaks proper or at least have sufficient level of English, and restaurant manager Peter is a story of it's own.
Have a look at the attached photos, and make a decision on your own.
I would not recommend this hotel's restaurant to anyone, as it is clear that there are no HACCP rules in place.

One of the best assets this hotel has is its prime location. If you wanted to relax and commune with nature, this hotel can give you some excellent alternatives. They have well-kept saunas, playground for children, health and wellness facilities, bowling hall, outdoor programmes, etc. The food was also great. They are serving hungarian and international cuisines. The live music at the dining area during dinner gives a relaxing atmosphere.

I wish that they can construct a pool where you can really swim. The present structure is not suitable for "swimming". Built-in locks for the rollers of the bed are necessary.

Together with my partner and a 4-year-old child, we visited Lifestyle Hotel Mátra for 3 nights in December 2012 to spent the New Year’s Eve there also, and can only say we loved every minute of our stay in the Mátra.

To understand a bit more about who we are and based on which factors we chose Lifestyle Hotel Mátra: we are an urbanite couple, both in our mid 30s, with high education, working in one of the most competitive sectors (i.e. finance) under continuous pressure. Especially due to professional reasons, we live our daily life highly structured and therefore when time comes to take a rest and a few days off, we prefer those places that ensure the highest level of standards. Based on our experience at Lifestyle Hotel Mátra, it is definitely one of those places. During our review, we follow a structure that focuses on the main factors one should generally considers when selecting in which hotel to stay.

1. Arrangement: We visited Lifestyle Hotel Mátra through personal acquaintances therefore without any intermediary involved thus we rather organized our trip directly with the hotel. As far as I was involved, organizing our stay around New Year’s Eve went smooth, however we have been in contact with the hotel through friends and my partner was by mar more involved in the process than I was.

2. Arrival: Lifestyle Hotel Mátra is located halfway between Mátrafüred and Mátraháza, approx. 90 km from Budapest that takes a travel by car between 1-1.5 hours. Since this was not the first time for us in the hotel, we have been pretty comfortable with how to get there. Arrival was smooth with nice and helpful staff who were ready to grab all our luggage and bring them up in the room. No specialty to mention, since the hotel is located on a relatively large plot in the forest, parking as well as moving all around is very much comfortable. One will find a relaxing, close-to-nature environment from the arrival already. Even though the hotel was built in the socialist era, since it had been completely refurbished a couple of years ago, one would almost not even recognize the old socialist basics.

3. Accommodation: Since we have been travelling 3 with a 4-year-old kid on board, we booked a junior suite to ensure privacy for all of us. Our room was very well equipped with all kind of extras one would expect from a ****superior hotel. To mention the for-me-most-astonishing one: when stepping into the room, guests find on their pillows a kind of “pillow menu” with a wide range of pillows to choose from. For me, this had been the first time with such an experience. Really convincing. Besides such fine elements, the rooms themselves are nicely refurbished just as the hotel in general, and ensure a view either at the entrance of the hotel (with the parking places for cars) or at the highest peak of the Mátra, Kékestető. At first, a view at the parking places might sound surprising and not that much desirable, but if we add that this is the western side of the hotel, one can imagine how beautiful it is to see the sunset each and every evening. Undisputedly, the more desirable side is the eastern one with direct view to Kékestető. Besides that, not much to mention on the rooms, since the web page of the hotel explains all material details in depth.

4. Food and beverages: Definitely, by far the weakest link to mention. We chose half board instead of full board but frankly, food was not a bit better than mediocre. It is important to note that there is a huge gap between the quality of the breakfast and that of the diner, for the benefit of the earlier. Breakfast I would consider **** with all features one can imagine. For me, the key element was the freshly made omelets every morning tailor made to the requirements of the guest each and every time. Besides this feature, the breakfast included continental as well as English elements, fresh fruits, juices thus a large selection of meals to choose from. Critical part was the diner. First of all, as mentioned in every second review on this site on Lifestyle Hotel Mátra, after a few days, the food got extremely boring and everything started to have the same flavor. Second, and for me this was the most embarrassing of all when talking about food, quality of the same meals varied day by day. So, practically speaking, after I found one or more meals that were to my liking on the first day, due to the unpredictable quality, the next day the same selection of food was mediocre or even rubbish which from a ****superior hotel is totally unacceptable. Hereby I would like to highlight again that all the bad experience is related to the diner selection and breakfast is really great.

5. Attractions: First off, since we stayed for 4 days / 3 nights only, did not have that much time to check out all the attractions the hotel and the surrounding area offers but even though we tested some of them. The ones we tried and recommend:

- Wellness: Superb, with 2 medium sized pools, whirlpool function and several saunas to choose from, coupled with a steam bath also. For kids, there is a specific “kindergarten area” nearby the pool that might also bring benefit to couples with one or more kids. Since we did not use this feature, cannot really tell more about it, but from the outside, it really looked great. One element that should definitely be mentioned is the extremely slippery floor within the wellness area that is way too dangerous and accidental.

- Massage: On New Year’s Eve’s afternoon, I took a back massage since I have some problems with my waist and it was a fair one, however definitely not superb.

- Sledging: Approx. 5 minutes of driving from the hotel, an adventure park is located (“Oxygen Adrenaline Park”) that serves as a perfect location for a half day trip. Since we visited the hotel in wintertime, only the sledge track was operating, however it was still a very good way of having fun (also with kids by the way since all sledges are for 2 people by default).

- Kékestető: As I am a great fan of running, the highest peak of Mátra, Kékestető offered a great challenge to take with its 6 km distance in one direction. Shall one get there, the radio / TV antenna is definitely worth seeing and going up upon.

- Mátraszentistván Ski Park: Since some friends visited the ski park in approx. 20 km / 30 min driving distance, we did also and not regret it for a moment. As we were not prepared for a skiing experience this time, we rather enjoyed snowtubing and the great Alpine style restaurant the park offers. Can only recommend to anybody being a fan of skiing.

- New Year’s Eve reception: Definitely the most important attraction of all for this time, since, as I mentioned earlier, we spent New Year’s Eve in the hotel also. Very nice reception, with the usual buffet dinner from the former evenings, local music band playing all night long, nicely seated tables with classy design, so every detail in order. And for us the fact that the owner of the hotel also spent New Year’s Eve there with his family was also something very much positive, showing clear commitment. The only downside to mention is that since there was no dress code disclosed, one could experience substantial differences in the outfit of guests varying from the most elegant tuxedos to tweed jackets also. Not something dramatic, however would have been useful to publish a dress code to avoid misunderstandings.

All in all, we spent 4 wonderful days in this beautiful hotel belonging to the top ones in the country, even if the food was mediocre as mentioned earlier and checking out was a nightmare due to the extra workload generated by New Year’s Eve and the fact that almost all guests wanted (or rather tried) to check out at the same time. Can only recommend Lifestyle Hotel Mátra to anybody having the opportunity to travel there. Will enjoy it for sure.
