At first, the homestay looked nice and the room was OK. But then the French owner arrived... We rented a scooter and gave a passport as deposit. When we returned the scooter, I asked to get my passport back, but the owner got very angry and said I could get it in the morning. He said he didn't know where it was which I think is very bad because these are official documents. Due to my flight the next morning, I really wanted my passport back and explained that to the man. In return, he told me that I could go sleep outside if I didn't stop asking. It upset me and I was scared because he was aggresive. Very unfriendly man and inhospitable. Don't stay at this place!

We had a very very glad stay with michel and his wife. He is just amazing. Very friendly and really very helpful. When you like to know something he will give you all his advice and knowledge. The stay was very nice. The price was "tres bien". The standard is what you get for the price. But a very good low budget travel accomondation. 😊 You also can rent motorbike for just 50000 in the home stay. Also they do a very good breakfast and also dinner food. Everything safe and good. Thank you LA CASA..

The French owner is lunatic and very unnice: he was very kind when I arrived. The next day he had made mistakes in his booking and was overbooked. He asked me to move out of the room (because I was travelling by myself), offering me too options: to go to his friend's homestay for the same price whereas telling me the place wasn't as good, and not able to give me practical info about it, or to sleep in a crapy dirty room in his house for cheaper. I refused to move out, and from then he was very rude and unnice with me. Also, I saw him entering someone's room when they were out of it. About the rooms: double bed is 2 beds gathered in one so you can feel it at the middle, pretty uncomfy. Sheets weren't clean. Bathroom was old, not very clean and smelled bad. Location not central. Touristic info : zero. Fortunately clients of the hostel were able to give me some tips. Only good points were the outside/ balcony and the food was quite good but not cheap.

first impression : wow !! cute room !! but then.... it's located in senggigi area, right in front of Jayakarta Hotel and about 3-5 kms to Senggigi main area. There is no interesting place nearby, except the beach and local shops or restaurants. ok, here we go.. we stayed here for 1 nights and we rent 2 rooms. the room is clean, nice and comfortable. i like the bathroom as well.. BUT the toilet was leaking, so if you poo or pee and when you flush it, then it will spread out everywhere on the floor. when you check in, you better SEE the rules behind the door. remember, if you forgot to turn off the Fan, they will charge you more. don't hang your cloths or towels on the fence in front of your room, otherwise they will move it. so yes, many rules. ohh, i suggest to not stay there in raining season, unless you want a flooded experience :)

I like the friendliness of the owner Michel and his Indonesian wife. The homestay is comfortable and homey to emphasise on the idea of homestay. Their garden is lush and beautiful. If you like gardens, ask for a garden-facing room. I had my room facing the carpark which I did not mind as I was mostly out and about. The rooms are big and you have a lot of room. The rooms, though big, is dusty although the floors are clean. The shower room is very basic so do not expect too much. It is cold shower but I didn't mind it but it would be sometimes nice to have a hot shower at the end of the day. But with the price, I am perhaps complaining with no cause. I am just saying like it is so people know. The wifi in the public area is weak so if you are looking to do some serious booking or correspondence, you might need to go somewhere else. The location is still very far from the Senggigi centre. It is not walkable and I am a walker. You will still need to go to the main road to grab a taxi which will be about 25,000IDR (one way) to somewhere near the Senggigi Art Market where you can find most of the shops and eateries. So the location might be a let down for some as you can find accommodation for about 30,000IDR more than La Casa within walking distance from the Art market. LATEST UPDATE I received a rather unfriendly email this morning from the owner Michel. I have always written my reviews in an objective manner and I say it as it is. So, I am surprise that the owner had a problem with facts. Will I recommend this accommodation to anyone? I would have said yes before this morning but my answer is a big NO after receiving the email. As a traveler, I appreciate honest reviews and I do not think my review is mean or masking the truth. So to have an owner compromise the privacy of my personal contact and email me with such a rebuke, it is surprisingly shocking. It also sets the good homestays apart from the bad ones I guess. Instead of taking the comment with grace and improving his homestay from there, he is too proud to admit the flaws. My review gave him an above average score so if he is expecting a high score, he should perhaps be open-minded enough to improve his flaws.

We stayed a few nights in La casa and really enjoyed it. Michel is such a nice person, he knows a lot about the country and was always in mood for a chat (he gave us good info, especially for our visa extension). The place Is quiet and I can only recommend you To stay there insted of the center of Senggigi. The food is also damn good and cheap ! Thank's you ! Lucas and Lea

First of all, this place is not in Senggigi as it says. Not the Senggigi you are expecting anyway. Its almost 5kms away but you gotta say that to get business I guess. There is absolutely nothing here - and since we were just laying over it was fine. If you are staying in Lombok I recommend Kuta or Sengigi proper. The rooms were okay, breakfast was good and showers were feeble but ok for the price. The owner is a French gentleman with too much attitude - and his wife the exact opposite. We had some laundry and they assured us it will be ready in 2 days. End of the second day we had to remind them and after 3 hours we got wet laundry with missing pieces. Next day we paid them for a ride to the public pier for a boat to Gili - and we were totally ripped off. We learned this after speaking to others. I remember we had a conversation about Mt. Rinjani hike and he said we paid way too much with our company. But when I asked for information about his offer, he said its all in his head. Say what??

We made a reservation to stay here as our flight from KL arrived quite late in the evening, and we wanted to make sure we'd have somewhere to stay. At 10pm we arrived after catching the bus from Praya airport and managed to find our way there down a long, dark alley, past several barking dogs which we had to scare off with our flash light and stones to get past. Finally, we arrived and the French owner was sat in the entrance terrace and without even a 'hello' he said 'it is late, we are full'. At this point I was certain he was joking (having experienced this dead-pan humour from French people before) and explained that we had a reservation on booking.com. I just wanted to get to sleep after a day of traveling that started at 5am that morning. His reply: 'another group came earlier and wanted the room, they just climbed rinjani and they stay here before so I let them have it, we are full'. At this point we argued that you have to honour a reservation, surely that is the point of making a booking? Then he got really angry, 'DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE DON'T SHOW UP??? Do you know how many people we have to turn away???' Etc. Etc. This rant went on for some time and made us feel really victimised (err, sorry for choosing to support your business?!!!!) This attitude was completely unacceptable- whatever issues he had with booking.com in the past they are nothing to do with us, I have used the site 50+ times on our year-long trip so far and never had this issue with a guesthouse. We explained to the owner that you place your credit card details to make the booking so that, in the event of a no-show, the card may be charged the full amount. He didn't understand, and thought we were saying we had already paid, which made him even more furious. Additionally, I made the reservation at 10am that morning, I clearly had every intention of showing up! Clearly what happened is a larger group turned up without reservation and the only way he could accommodate them all was to give them the room we had booked without notifying us. I can understand the frustration of having to turn away big groups but that's all part of the business of owning a guesthouse. What he did is just short sighted business sense. What's more, I might not even have written this review at all had he managed the situation politely. He was so rude and obnoxious that he actually made me cry. What happened: he made a phone call to another guest house along the coast and said he'd pay for the taxi. We took the taxi to the Indonesian-owned guest house 'pondok shinta' and who paid for it? THEY did! The French man had lied, he didn't pay a penny for his error. Now here's the important part. 'Pondok Shinta was right on the beach, near local shops and restaurants and travel agents- far better located for getting away anywhere than la casa which is really out of town. The room was clean and comfortable, with breakfast included (unlike la casa who charge extra) and they gave us a rate of 100,000 for a twin room. My advice: skip la casa and the rude, arrogant owner and go straight to: HOMESTAY PONDOK SHINTA, jalan raya sengiggi km8, sengiggi, Lombok. Room rates 100-150 with fan, or 250A/C. Really lovely owners, like a 'home stay' should be.
