#1 of 4 B&Bs / Inns in Pitres
Casa Ana is a historic village house in the mountainous Alpujarra region of Andalucia. Once a family home, with a wine press, olive store, barns and a goat shed, the property was lovingly restored between 2005 and 2013. It provides comfortable, quiet accommodation with 8 en suite bedrooms, dining room, sitting room, a Moorish courtyard garden and several south-facing terraces. The style is simple and traditional - chestnut roof beams and terracotta floors - but with modern comforts, including underfloor central heating in winter and rain showers. At Casa Ana we provide delicious breakfasts using local produce - fresh oranges from village growers, local honey, eggs, bread, hams and olive oil. Picnic lunches are also available. The house is located in the mountain village of Ferreirola (population around 28), near Pitres. The village has fantastic views of the Trevelez river gorge, and is a wonderful base to go walking, explore the Sierra Nevada National Park, visit the traditional white villages of the Alpujarra or take a day trip to Granada or the Mediterranean beaches.

Overall, the spacious and outdoor beauty of Casa Ana really helped me be productive by providing me with the uninterrupted space to write. This was my first residency and it got me into the disciplined mindset of rearranging my collection. MJ and our group session were also invaluable sources of support, inspiration, and insight.

An enjoyable and productive retreat in a beautiful setting with delicious food and good company. The mentor, Mary-Jane Holmes is very supportive and helped me to think about the structure of my novel. It was the right mix of quiet time to write, one-to-one tutorials and group sessions.

A group of 12 of us used Casa Ana as a base for a week's walking holiday in October and it exceeded all expectations in terms of location, views, accommodation and exceptional food/wine. I had a lovely room overlooking the main terrace. Ann herself is delightful and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. It is beautifully designed with several terraces so you can be sociable or have peace and quiet. We also appreciated the sitting/kitchen room area where you could make a cup of tea or enjoy a drink at any time. All the arrangements for the week's walking with Chris Stewart, Kirsten, Richard and Jose were also excellent. I would highly recommend it.

Fabulous. Great walking, exceptional, entertaining and knowledgeable guides, especially Chris Stewart. Perfect accommodation, the most amazing food (vegetarian food was not an after thought, but well catered for and really delicious) and warm and hospitable host and staff. What more can you ask for? Loved it!

I attended the Writers Retreat at Casa Ana on July 27, 2019. I was so happy to have attended this amazing retreat facilitated by writer and poet, Mary-Jane Holmes. First of all, the place: Casa Ana is situated in an idyllic location, the perfect venue for this writing retreat. My room was large, clean and offered a breathtaking view of the mountains. It was a pleasure to wake up each morning and head out to my balcony to do a spot of writing or take a walk before breakfast. The food: Breakfasts and lunches were all carefully prepared with the freshest ingredients. The highlight, Chef Natalie's exquisite, Masterchef-style, 3-course dinners. Simply divine! The writing instruction and coaching; Our days were spent either writing on our own or working one on one with Mary-Jane who offered very incisive and thought provoking feedback on our writing. We were a diverse group who were writing short stories, novels, non-fiction, memoirs and poetry. And we were all in agreement as to Mary-Jane's ability to get into our heads and help us see things from a different perspective. Two evenings a week, she facilitated group critique sessions which allowed us to read parts of our work and listen to feedback from the other writers. I found this to be very helpful. Overall, I enjoyed my time at the retreat immensely. Owner Anne was warm and very welcoming ensuring that we had all that we needed. On some nights, we took lovely walks to the nearby villages for dinner. You can also go on short hikes to the different villages if you want a break from writing. I highly recommended the writing retreats at Casa Ana if you need some quiet time in a tranquil and breathtaking setting to finish up or start a writing project while receiving some very useful guidance by an award-winning writer/poet. I would love to return!
