45 min drive from airport, driver very nice. When we got to hotel our room wasn’t ready , we had booked this several months before and wanted block 1.7 because I’m asthmatic with a heart problem , and my wife is disabled, told not available . Now we were worried talked to the manageress Marsha a great person who said don’t worry call a golf cart be there in 2 mins. This believe it or not was true unless they were very busy. Good bits service very good Andre amazing , Termica always got drinks Before I asked , isn’t that amazing,Samantha 11-11 always looked out for us , if food was alright etc Chefs spot on as well as Sylvester Romulus brill steaks amazing, others now Luella Josette Burdette Shamal, and special mention for Relina main desk and COVID test this is a special lady who looked after us specially with our COVID tests.Beer and spirits top end order 2 at time do not wait, water make sure you get plenty of ice as gets warm quick. Breakfast warm , get them to stir beans as heats up the rest 11-11 the best restaurant for Hot food every other restaurant is warm. Ask for Icecream as not generally on menu . Only negative rooms a bit dated aircon good and fan , beds comfy and bath big. On the whole beautiful place to go staff on the whole brill. Last negative give people a time to go not just all at once as never seen so many people at once since COVID started , felt scary.Best good and drinks package we’ve ever had.

The staff and food in the dockside restaurant has been excellent during our stay, lots of choice and the restaurant manager made each meal special. Coco’ for breakfast is a must, table service with a smile, again very well run by the manager there, she organised her staff brilliantly and the food was very good. Dunita at the Royal suites pool bar is wonderful, happy to service, always smiling and dancing along to the music, nothing is too much trouble. We enjoyed our stay, the royal suites rooms were very nice, unfortunately the seaweed was a little bit of an issue but the staff worked hard to clear it.

We only booked this holiday fairly last minute due to Antigua having green status that allowed us to travel here. We would normally have done our homework, and probably wouldn’t have come here after reading many negative reviews just before travelling. Saying that, we came here with an open mind looking forward to our family holiday. On arrival, we were seen fairly quickly at reception, who despite other reviews, were extremely helpful and very friendly. Our rooms were junior suite ocean facing. The room was spacious, very clean with spectacular views. So far so good. Room service was every 2 days which didn’t bother us too much as towels were plentiful around the pool areas if we wanted fresh every day. We spent most of our time around the fairly large family pool area. The pool bar was great and we never waited long at all for drinks service and this was always with a smile. I don’t know where people get in reviews that service wasn’t good. I did see many people being extremely rude to staff however which is unacceptable. We booked as advised our sit down evening meals the day before and always got the time we asked for. Also, for our son who is super fussy with eating, we could pre order a meal that he could eat at the time of booking the table. The other option was a walk in buffet which we found really good with many varied choices and themed evenings. Many reviews are rightly talking about the stinky seaweed problem which renders one of the beaches unusable. I would not stay in a beach front room which faced this. In my opinion these rooms should not be occupied. The hotel is working tirelessly to remove the seaweed, but it seems to be coming in from the ocean as fast as it’s being removed. This is an ecological problem and not the hotels fault. There is another perfectly fine beach that has water sports which are all free and fabulous. My wife has always been bitten by mosquitoes wherever in the world we travel but came away from here with not a single bite. That was just fantastic. In summary, yes there are problems with the beach with seaweed but we had a fabulous relaxing and stress free holiday. The staff are brilliant with a lovely smiling attitude. Yes, some are new and learning but so what. We all have to learn don’t we. Thanks to all the staff at St James

That’s about it really. Just don’t bother. Unimpressed with the whole experience, not worth the money. Wouldn’t book with Virgin again - just been fobbed off again & again until too late to do anything as going home.

We are repeat visitors having previously highly recommended the resort to friends & family. First the positives. The resort has nice grounds and we very much enjoyed the restaurants and bars. The staff were always pleasant, hard working & friendly. We’ve always enjoyed ground floor beach front rooms that open on to the east beach or “windy” beach. This time our stay did not start well as before we even got out the taxi there was a large number of cases and bags waiting to be taken to rooms etc. Reception was under staffed with long delays to check in. Our room wasn’t ready and after an 8hr flight we had to wait another 90 minutes until after 5pm to get a room. Lack of staff appeared to be a common issue through out the stay with many new staff in the bars and restaurants. The biggest problem for us was the inundation of Sargassum sea weed on the east beach. You cannot control Mother Nature but you can sort out the clear up. The beach which has been badly eroded was only useable for 36 hrs out of 13 days. The smell of rotting weed was dreadful and numerous visitors had to move rooms. The constant noise of diggers and trucks removing the weed made the area resemble a building site with constant noise. The resort management need to completely rethink how they deal with this problem. You cannot sell premium beach front rooms on a closed beach that stinks of rotting seaweed and have tractors and trucks operating by them 7 hrs a day. The resort is also charging a $24 a day surcharge. This is meant to cover extra Covid costs and includes WiFi. Considering there appeared to be a significant staff shortage and WiFi in our room was very poor and unusable at peak times, we considered this additional charge to be a rip off. Generally, around the resort areas were beginning to look a bit tired. There were numerous broken foot path lights and peeling paint on walls. Local management again need to open their eyes or the resort owners need to increase the maintenance budget. Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend this resort.
