We have just arrived home from the most amazing stay at the Pickled Onion in Santa Elena. The quaint Mayan huts were wonderful. They were all decorated with local textiles and absolutely everything you needed was there. The staff were excellently trained to cater to your every need. The pool area was great. The view from there surrounded by beautiful...

Santa Elena, and more particularly the Pickled Onion, is the perfect stop to visit the spectacular ruins, e.g., Uxmal, in the area. I stayed in one of the small cabanas on the property. It was clean, comfortable, private, and very inviting. It is adjacent to a nice swimming pool. I arrived late and it was a cool evening so I...

Thank you so much for your lovely review So happy you like your stay here... yes it was a little chilly when you were here....in our winter we have cold fronts that come down from the north after the snowfall. They usually last about 3 -4 days . It is the nights that go chilly but daytime still brings lots...

We stopped by for lunch after touring Kabah and were delighted by the reception from Valerie, the owner. The lunch menu offered sandwiches and full meals with enough variety for to accommodate anyone. The three of us shared two appetizers, the queso fundido and a quesadilla, both were fresh, hot and delicious. For the entree we each had something different...

I am about to arrange my fourth visit to the Yucatan in Mexico and each time I stay at the Pickled Onion. On searching for availability I was surprised to see such a negative report posted about this most delightful, peaceful and friendly place to stay, situated next door to a quaint Mexican village with all the atmosphere that it...

I'd suggest looking for somewhere else... The owner is rude at best and it would appear everything is too much trouble for her, except having lunch with her friends. The staff look uncomfortable, and as if they are back in the 19th century working as slaves for the imperial. Not a warm place.

Valerie is an exquisite host. Her little compound is a sweet spot with charming cabanas, gardens, pool and restaurant that enchanted us. I could stay there for several days, doing my yoga on the patio, enjoying the near by ruins and cenotes and the good cooking on the terraces.

We enjoyed every part of our stay at this B&B. The owner is very caring for her guests; we start each day with a breakfast (included) of many fruits, toast, fresh baked sweet bread, coffee and juice. Warm, cosy, protected, friendly... It's the experience of being in a luxurious dry jungle setting, but sleeping in a " Modern Traditional Mayan Cabana " with full comfort. More than that, it's the care, the professionalism of a staff who works in a more international standard of reception instead of the Mexican way which can be hectic and intrusive. Lots...
