Stayed one night and ate all of our meals here. And liked everything about the place. We will try to arrange a longer stay on our next trip. The owner and staff were very helpful, the food was great, the gardens are nicely landscaped and the room we had was very large and comfortable.

I've traveled a good bit in Mexico, and the Pickled Onion may just be my favorite place to stay (Mexico or otherwise). The individual cabanas, built in the style of Mayan "huts" but with modern comfort (including surprisingly reliable wifi), reveal the owner Valerie's good taste and appreciation for detail, further reflected throughout the beautiful gardens, the restaurant, the pool...

How predictable, another great review for The Pickled Onion! I can't think of anything missing or lacking in our 4 day stay at Valerie's place. Our continental breakfasts included anywhere from 12 to 15 different kinds of fruit, really good bread and banana bread, the coffee's great too. The menu items are equally good and fresh, lunch and dinner. The...

The Hammock over the pool is the perfect place to relax after a day exploring the ancient ruins of Labanh, Sayil, Kabah and Uxmal. Superb location in St. Elena is ultimate base camp. Valerie is the host-extreme because she cares about her place and your stay there. She always stops by to check on you at breakfast and dinner. She...

We had the most amazing time at the Pickled Onion. It was recommended by friends and we couldn't be more thankful. Valerie, the owner, treated us like family and made us feel most welcome. The native plants and trees that she has planted throughout the property create a magnificent tropical garden that surrounded the replica Mayan Huts complete with thatched...

How nice that you wrote about The Pickled Onion so nicely thank you There is so much to see in this area that a one night stay at times does not suffice... I do realize that holidays are always too short and that one has to cram in as much as possible But I do hope you get the chance...

We loved our two nights at Valerie's place. The gardens are beautiful and she really took time to connect with guests personally. We enjoyed the traditional Mayan styled accommodation. It was clean, quiet but for the beautiful birds, and comfortable. The food was great. We arrived by bus. If, like us, you are travelling without a car you may find...

A gem of a small hotel near to two of the best maya sites in the area, Uxmal and Kabah. The cabins are simple but clean, and most now have fridges. All are set in a small garden teeming with flowers and the odd iguana. Valerie, the host runs a tight little team, which serve food all day long in...

So kind of your to take the time to write this lovely review I know what you mean about the pool ...I orginally built it for me, never expecting or planning to build a Bed and Breakfast or ecpecting to accomodate on some days more than 22 people..
