We love the Pickled Onion. Located just outside the small town of Santa Elena. We stayed here before and will continue to again. Beautiful garden setting. Authentic Mayan style rooms. Swimming pool for the warm Yucatan evenings. Valerie makes your stay here remarkable with her knowledge of the local sites. Ruins, swimming cenotes, haciendas. The rooms are very clean with...

We stayed here for one night during our week long travel through Yucatan. This pace was the highlight of our trip. Beautiful grounds, a very nice bungalow (modern, very comfortable and rustic at the same time), great food, and we even swam in the pool which was quite good and super clean. Valerie is a great host and it was...

This was booked by an American friend that we are travelling the Yucatan with and it is a peaceful, delightful oasis to stop, take a deep breath and relax. Good location away from any hustle and bustle, friendly owner and staff, good food so no need to eat out, reasonable prices, you won't be sorry to include this gem in...

My wife and I had the good fortune to spend a couple of nights in January at the Pickled Onion and the stay was delightful in every way. We had our own individual hut with a thatched roof, and the owner was always asking the guests whether everything was to their liking. As to the food- oh, Lord but it...

Located on Highway 261 several miles south of Uxmal, at the edge of Santa Elena, is this gem of a restaurant. Physically, it's rather unassuming, but the food and presentation belie its location and appearance. In a word: outstanding! We returned twice, and enjoyed the gazpacho, the avocado soup, meatballs, and fish. If you plan to visit Uxmal, either from...

I've stayed at the pickled onion twice and loved it both times. A great stop in the Uxmal area. The owner Valerie is great. The accommodations are so neat. The food is amazing. St elena is a quaint little town. Its nice to relax in the hammock or read a book by the pool .

Stayed one night touring around Yucatan. Would have stayed two but all booked up. Owner/founder is a Brit, lives on site, is a thoroughly competent host. Rooms are delightful, food beautifully presented, healthy. Pool is lovely, grounds are imaginatively, and lushly landscaped. It's an oasis if you are traveling the dusty roads from Celestun.
