Can you separate two teenage girls from their cell phones and be happy as a family together? Yes you can at Sky High Wilderness Ranch where adventure (via incredible once in a life time dogsledding experience) and peace of being in nature ‘off grid’ combine. We loved stepping away from the stress of work and our digital worlds to appreciate the peace of stunning views, being surrounded by nature, and stepping back in time to live for 4 nights in a log cabin which is charming, if rustic, akin to glamping. (Tip for packing it was never cold, the wood stove produced ample heat, so don’t bring as many layers as we did). Jocelyne and her team were a perfect balance of responsive and friendly while leaving us to enjoy the remoteness by ourselves. If you are up for an authentic adventure and love being active outside, then I can’t recommend this enough. We were truly sad to leave and maybe will try a taste of the ranch in summer so we ca look forward to another trip in future.…
My girlfriend and I had an amazing time during our 4 day "taste of mushing" tour at Sky High Wilderness. Jocelyn provided excellent communication and answered all of our questions during the weeks leading up to our trip. Our guide, Elaine, was an excellent teacher and cook. We loved the overall flexibility and personalization of our trip - everything was catered to how long we wanted to go sledding, where we wanted to go, etc. Overall this is an incredibly authentic experience that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an adventure and willing to get outside their comfort zone for a few days!
I did the half day dog sledding experience and it was everything and more than what I expected! Our guide was Christina (hopefully I spelt that right!) and she was amazing. I was extremely nervous at the start, but the staff were very comforting and reassuring that you were going to be okay! The scenery throughout was breathtaking, the dogs were so energetic and I couldn’t understand how they weren’t tired at the end haha! I HIGHLY recommend this, the price is a bargain and I will 100% be telling my friends and family to book with Sky High! Thanks again for making dreams come true for this Australian girl, it was an experience I’ll never ever forget. Jen
What a wonderful time we had!! We used them for snowmobiling; we had a blast! The guides were awesome & very attentive! I highly recommend them! They provide all necessary clothing as them temps were quite cold that day; all you need to do is show up & be ready to have some fun!
I can't say enough about Sky High, and everyone that works there, including all of the amazingly sweet dogs! Our guide Paul was super knowledgeable, really kind and loves his dogs SO much. All dogs are treated so well, and are well loved, including the lovely retired ones that roam the property enjoying their days of leisure. The trails were beautiful, scenery stunning and dogsled instruction from Paul was thorough, which made for a fantastic day in the wilderness! We will be back for SURE, but next time, we'll book more than a half day! SO glad we chose Sky High, and only wish we had spent more time there.
First of all, this is NOT dog-sledding (where you show up, jump on a sled behind a bunch of dogs and go around a circuit for an hour or two). You will get to know your dogs (in my case - Pickles, Copper, Lobo, George and Lucy), you will shovel snow around their kennels, pick-up pooh, harness them up, and monitor their progress on the trails. At the end of an exhausting day of sledding you will return, thank them all with a warm hug, unharness them, feed them and get them back to their homes. Day 2, repeat, but with tired arms, shoulders and legs! Elaine was our host for our four days of adventure and she is truly a world-class guide, cook and dog musher who loves what she does. She also has the most infectious laugh, which we will always remember! Photos don't do the vastness of the area the justice it deserves. It is truly an immense area to explore. Joceyln and Gary did a wonderful job of making sure all the logistics were looked after - from pick-up to drop off we always felt that they were concerned with how well everyone was doing. We also spent time with Paul, one of the other guides who had some great stories and did a pretty good job of cooking! My wife and I can't say enough good things about our experience with Sky High Wilderness Ranch. That said, it's not for everyone - you'd better be ready for a full day of fun and exertion. Rent proper clothes - either from the ranch or elsewhere, so that you're fully prepared for the elements. …
People at Sky High couldn't have been any friendlier. Great location by Fish Lake. We went after the tourist season ended in October and actually had their amazing and comfortable lodge all to ourselves. Loved the giant wood fireplace. Actually a quick drive from Whitehorse, it had snowed quite a lot, but it was an easy drive for anyone with winter driving experience (even without 4 wheel drive). No cell service, but that was part of the charm, hard to truly be on vacation anymore with phones in our hands, so this was a nice break from it all. Dog-sledding was great too, so much fun and not difficult even for a beginner like me. They have rescued many otherwise doomed dogs who were beyond eager to pull me around.
An absolute amazing experience. Nothing like Huskies leading you through stunning country side. Worth every dollar. Both our driver & our instructor were great. Huskies were so happy & looked after. Only wish we did the whole day
I am new to Tripadvisor so this review is a bit out of date. My wife and I went on a 7-day dog sledding trip a couple of years ago at Sky High with Julien as our guide. Since then we've been dogsledding in Sweden too with someone else and although that was amazing too, if (when!) we do this again then we'll come back to Sky High. Where to start? Having just passed through the Canadian Rockies I though I had surely seen the most stunning scenery, and in a way that was true. But the first time we stopped the dogs up in the hills around Fish Lake (and they were, amazingly, quiet for a minute!), I just looked around in a long, slow circle with my jaw dropped down low. I felt like I was unable to say "WOW" with the right amount of enthusiasm. The Rockies had been pretty. Yukon was... Two words found their way to mind - Big. Wild. I had read The Call of the Wild, and now I was in it! It all seems like yesterday. The dogs clamouring. The louder clamouring of those left behind. Then instant silence when they take off and all you hear is your own breath and the sound of the sled on snow. There's a sharp bend coming up..the dogs take the inside route..that means the sled is cutting the corner even more..right over that big bump of snow - hang on! Lean over! Made it! Uphill now. The dogs just don't want to stop. Give them a hand and help push the sled. But jump on quickly at the top or you'll be gazing at your sled disappearing in the distance! I can't think of a holiday when I have felt so alive. Looking at everyones' photos, well, they could have been my own. Julien looked after us amazingly well. The main lodge at the ranch is warm and comfortable and the food was great. Fire-toasted sandwiches during the day were particularly welcome. All of the supplied clothing was good and up to the job. I miss my dog team. Thanks to Bully, Klondike, Brass, and even noisy Rose! But especially to my leaders Highway (I'm in charge here!) and (absolute fave) Nickel. Please give Nickel a pat for me if you pass her!…
Guide was great, horses were great and the scenery was breathtaking. Even though it rained during our 3 hour trail ride our guide provided rain gear so we could still enjoy the ride in the evening sun. Would recommend if want a peaceful ride where you can enjoy the scenery.
