My husband and I had a lovely 3-night stay at the Hotel Nelligan. The petit suite was beautifully decorated with an exposed brick wall, a fireplace, and high-end furnishings. Very comfy bed and a large bathroom, with a giant tub and great water pressure in the shower. We definitely felt that we got our money's worth. It was so nice...

We stayed here for 3 nights in late August. Great location, great service, great restaurant and a very nice visit. Convenient walking to many places in the old part of the city. Close enough to McGill University and a few nice museums. Restaurant has very tasty and imaginative menu. We will be making Hotel Nelligan our place to stay in...

We had one night here, a very convenient hotel in the old Montreal. The hotel is a little eclectic, with rooms everywhere. Our room on the street was large and comfortable and no street noise. We chose the hotel because of its proximity to the cruise terminal. It was close to good restaurants and good for one night I would...

This was a last minute trip so finding a quality hotel in Old Montreal was challenging. Unfortunately the place we usually stay (and love; Auberge Bonaparte) was completely booked, so we opted for Hotel Nelligan for the location and the inclusion of an on-site restaurant. We stayed in the petit suite as it was the only accommodation available. Having splurged...

A gorgeous hotel. A great location. There are a few "buts" though. It's loud. Rooms on St. Paul or the atrium above the bar are noisy. I ate/went for drinks a couple times and while some staff were great, more than a few were good at avoidance and there could be a long wait for things. When I was checking...

We recently really enjoyed our 3 night stay at the Nelligan. We had a large room at the back of the hotel which was very luxurious, spacious and importantly, very quiet. The concierge was excellent and gave us so many helpful suggestions on best way to visit places eg. Mont Royal. The hotel is very centrally located which allows you...

Due to TripAdvisor reviews we stayed at the Nelligan for 2 nights. Excellent location for seeing the old city and exceptional staff. We wanted to stay a third night,on returning from Quebec City, but due to heavy booking, the price quoted was out of our league. However the concierge Nathalia and the manager Daisy tried their best to accommodate us....

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
