Good location, hotel ok, but probably there are better places to stay in Montreal. But the Fairmonts in Quebec City and Ottawa are not to be missed. The pool was quite nice even though it's underground.

Thank you for your review stitchnerd, We definitely agree that our sister properties in Quebec City and Ottawa are not to be missed in their respective cities! We hope that you will give us another try after our grand transformation in June 2017 as we strive to be the place to stay in Montreal!

I am late in writing this, but am reminiscing about the wonderful 5 days that my daughter and I spent here last December /January. We would have happily rung in the New Year in the same place for this year, but, alas, it is closed for renovations. I was personally a fan of the Reine Elizabeth pre-reno. Old can mean...

Perfect location, positioned above the railway station in the city centre. It was several weeks away from closing for a 12 month refit and refurbishment throughout as very old and in need of of a lot of maintenance. When it opens in June 2017, it should be the place to stay.

I have stayed at this property numerous times before, and returned for business recently. The room was fine, typical Fairmont quality and size. However, housekeeping had forgotten to open up the armoire (an old TV cabinet now empty because of the new TV in the room), and the previous guest had left a small collection of (unopened) jam jars, fruit...

Have stayed here about a dozen times over the years; it is so convenient if you arrive by train (Via Rail main station is the basement). It's ranks in the top 2 of my go-to hotels for Montreal. There's a large food court and attached shopping if you need some more choices. An underground pathway can bypass a lot of...

Weekend trip with the boys. great location - steps from Ste.Catherine Street and a short walk from the Bell Centre where we watched a UFC match. Rooms are in the smaller side but clean and to be expected from these older hotels. Went for a swim and hot tub. No sauna though!

My mom and I took the train from Toronto to Montreal to celebrate her 62nd birthday in April of this year. She hadn't been to the city since she was a teenager so what a perfect, fun way to celebrate together. We stayed 2 nights. This was my first time staying at Fairmont the Queen Elizabeth and I was impressed!...

We stayed at the Reine Elizabeth the weekend before it closed for a 1 year refurb. I wish I had known about the refurb before we booked because the hotel was certainly showing its age. We paid 5 star rates for a room with a stained carpet, filthy windows and a bathroom straight out of my childhood in the 80s....

Had a great stay at the Fairmont. It's in a great location, with lots of shops and quick restaurants in the underground mall below the hotel. Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
