I was in a co-ed dorm with 7 others. I met some really lovely people during my 4 nights in Halifax. The kitchen and dining room are large and there are also some smaller lounge areas. Coin laundry is on site and there are restaurants, cafes and a supermarket all near by. Linens and a towel were provided. The staff...

If you want a place to feel like home, this is the place! It is located in a historic site in Halifax and it's so cozy! There are 3 floors with both mixed and female only rooms. They have many event options and sight seeing trips. If you become a HI member, you save money on food, car rentals and...

I stayed four nights in a basement eight bed girl's dorm. It was very warm so the windows were always open. Unfortunately that allows for a lot of street noise. Cars on Barrington, even groups just standing outside having conversations are pretty loud. Paper thin mattress and pillow made sleeping difficult. Often smelled damp too. I did not sleep well...

I stayed only one night and had the worst ever! The room was extremely hot without any fans. It also had (I guess the carpet) a strong stinky smell. Beside that the bedding was so old that it was almost transparent. And the bed (not sure that should be called a bed) was so thin I could feel the slats....

HI-Halifax is located very conveniently in the eastern downtown area, walkable distance from almost everything you could possibly want to visit including the waterfront, the Citadel and scores of bars & restaurants. The dorms are spacious, warm & clean, with ample bathrooms and a nice common room. The overall feel of the hostel is a little dated in comparison to...

This hostel is close to the downtown, the historic waterfront, a beautiful park, and also to a huge, 24-hour grocery store that's just two blocks away. Museums and other historical landmarks are nearby. Can't ask for more in terms of location. Rooms were fine with comfortable mattresses. There is a large kitchen and a couple of good-sized common areas. The...

I was at this place for five days. The reception staff is more flexible and accommodating than I ever expected. They are enthusiastic and helpful. Everything works as expected. The kitchen and bathrooms are clean, wifi works great even in the basement and the place is lively with the visitors coming and going. A large grocery store, The Atlantic is...

The HI-Halifax is clean, well-equipped and has very helpful staff. It's centrally located in downtown Halifax, within walking distance to grocery stores, the Seaport Market, the waterfront, car rental locations, buses, the ferry to Dartmouth, coffee shops, and is right next door to Bearly's House of Blues. I stayed in a private room, which as a hostelling member was $65/night....

This is pretty much your standard youth hostel in Canada. The hostel is pretty central to everything you would want to do in Halifax. It's close to the train station and a supermarket as well. There are loads of beds, and they supply clean bed linens. I rather enjoyed the huge common area. It's bear bones, but it is clean...

I've been there twice (as of March 2015), in October 2010 and August 2014. Both time, I had an amazing stay there. Rooms are clean, staff is awesome, public area are large and comfortable. The place is close to the train/bus station, supermarket and many restaurants. For people looking for a budget travel, this is the place!
