My daughter and I had a room booked for the 8th of December to be close to hospital while I was having surgury at the qe2.Our experience was not good, someone had the same door key as we did and came in but realized he had the wrong room. This was supposed to be one of the finished rooms but apparently something went wrong. Suppose we would have been asleep and saw this strange man in our room, we would have freaked out. We have stayed here before and didnt have any issues. We do undestand you are under renovation but this isnt cool.
My wife and I were booked for a two night stay in November 2020. The hotel was conveniently located close to our Halifax destination, but because of the traffic patterns, it did require some planning to access the entrance drive. There was still scaffolding that you had to walk through/under to get in the front door. Once inside the lobby, we found it bright and very clean. The Front Staff were nice and friendly and quickly completed the check-in. Covid protocols were in evidence and masks were worn. Signs indicated that the restaurant, pool and fitness centre were closed. Room service was available for in-room dining and there are many eating establishments available along Quinpool Road. Our room was on the 9th floor, facing the Commons, and there was no construction at that level. The room was clean, but like most hotels, the lighting was not great. The bed lamps only illuminated a small area, and there was a low power light in the corner by the window. The desk lamp did not work. A call to the Front Desk and a new lamp was brought up quickly. I was still glad that I brought a small flashlight, as even with all the lights on, there were many dark areas, especially around the TV - desk - drawers - fridge area. The bathroom was very well lit and well appointed with numerous towels and toiletries. Local telephone calls were free and standard wi-fi was available at no charge. We had no complaints about the heat-A/C which worked well, AND QUIETLY! During the evening and at night, we heard no noise from any other rooms or from guests in the halls. But during the day, you could hear the noise from the construction going on, but it was not intrusive at our room, we could easily carry on a conversation or listen to the TV. The only feature that I did not like about the room was that the room safe was above the hanger rod in the closet, and difficult to access. Because the safe was above eye-level, it was difficult to see if any small item was laying flat towards the back and you needed to feel around for your valuables. Parking was underground and construction materials were stored on the first level. The lanes were narrow, and the overhead clearance was stated as only six feet. To enter or exit you had to keep left (British rules?). the automatic door would not open if you were in the wrong lane. Although there were some pickup trucks in the garage, the spots were quite small and the many pillars made it difficult to park easily. I would definitely stay at this location in the future, and hope that the renovations are completed soon.…
I booked this hotel because it was close to the hospital where I had an appointment. I booked for 2 nights as I could not drive for 24 hours after my appointment. It is still under construction and there was not signage on how to get into the hotel. When I did finally figure it out and mentioned it to the registration desk they informed me there was signage, at the top of the building which is a 15 stories. Who can drive and look up on high building for a sign on how to get to the front of a hotel lobby. The parkaid has the smallest parking stalls I have ever seen. There are cars parked everywhere because because of the construction. I found one stall and backed in and wasn't comfortable parking in it as there wasn't enough room between the pillar and my car for me to open the door. I drove out and there was a car that was parked against the wall (a driving lane) and I had to drive back in and out of the stall so I could get out. I eventually hit the cement pillar and caused damage to me car. I informed the front desk of the car parked in the lane and that it was impossible to get out of a parking stall. They didn't seem to care. The construction starts at 7:45 a.m. A loud jackhammer was what I woke up to. I knew I couldn't stay another night as I would be needing sleep after my appointment at the hospital. I checked out and when I did so I realized they did a preauthorization on my credit card 100.00 above what my two night stay would be. They informed me it would take 3-4 business days for the pre authorization to come off of my credit card. I said that was crazy, first the extra 100.00 and that it took 3-4 business day. I stay at a lot of hotels and none take an extra 100.00 above the total price and 3 -4 days for it to be released. After I checked into another hotel I called them back and told them that I wanted the pre-authorized released immediately. They told me I would have to call me bank. I disputed that as they did the pre-auth but knew they weren't going to do it. I called my bank and they told me exactly what I thought, it was up to the hotel. It has now been 2 days since I checked out and the pre-authorization is still showing on my credit card. The rooms were okay. The plug in by the bed buzzed all night, annoying. No bath towels, only 2 face cloths and 2 hand towels. 2 bottles of lotion and 3 bottles of shampoo. I will never stay there again.…
My mother has been doing chemo and dialysis treatments since August and my father and her have been staying at this hotel off and on as we live an hour away. This weekend she had a dialysis apt that takes roughly 4 hours her apt was at 6 therefore not getting through until 10. After getting checked in and making our way to the room it was around 11pm. We got ready for bed and when we were getting in bed one of the beds (double bed occupancy) had a used bandaid stuck to one of the pillow cases, blood stains on the fitted sheet, hair all over the pillows and no complimentary water bottles. We called to the front desk and they switched our room right away which was great but after a 4 hour apt that is the last thing you want to do. The room we switched in to wasn’t bad but in the morning we had to ask for face cloths. When we checked out I told the front desk about our experience and explained my moms medical conditions, the worker responded with “I am sorry to hear that”. Not a discount off our stay or anything was offered. We are just very disappointed in the cleanliness and customer service we received during this stay.…
I'll preface this by saying that I am a young professional who travels the world on a budget, and I am extremely easy going. I worked in hospitality for many years and can make many allowances for slip ups that can happen in the industry, because I understand the system that can lead to them occurring. I have never in my life left my accommodation early, and have never even left a negative review because most of the time, a business and its staff are just trying their best. Bad days can happen, and words can hurt. That's a mouthful, but I feel compelled to contextualize the pain I feel in saying this: the fact that this hotel is open to guests right now is deception. It should close until renovations are complete. I checked in at 6 pm and knew the hotel was undergoing a facelift. I entered through the scaffolding into the lobby where I found some very friendly and organized staff who explained their plan to offer accommodations while undergoing significant renovations. I went up to my room to drop my bags before hitting the town, and was overjoyed to find I was on a renovated floor. At first glance it seemed like the $70 nightly rate was the best deal in town. Upon my return later that night, I opened the toilet to find a large fecal matter stain, which amidst a pandemic did not inspire confidence. The hot water worked fine, but the cold water released nothing but a tiny trickle. The next morning at 7:30 the construction started, and it was brutal drilling and banging sound right next to my room. I knew the place was under construction and expected noise, I just didn't expect it to come from the room next to mine at that hour. Before calling the front desk to change rooms I wanted to make a coffee, but in the machine found a cold, slightly moist coffee packet from a previous guest. Pre-pandemic I wouldn't have given it a second thought, but between that and the toilet I had to seriously wonder about the other surfaces in the room and the hotel. Of course they don't have housekeeping working the way they did before COVID-19, but those few elements were evidence of a caring but overworked staff who did not have the time nor tools to even make the room appear to be a safe place to rest your head. I called Priceline and was pleasantly surprised to get a refund for the remaining two nights of my stay. I transferred to a different hotel minutes away where I enjoyed an impeccable stay for the same price. I then went to take a shower, but instead of a soap, small shampoo, conditioner and body lotion, there were just 3 body lotions. Those would have been easy fixes with a call to the front desk, but at that point I just wanted to get out before noticing anything else amiss. That all being said, I think this hotel will be AMAZING once it is finished. A terrific location, beautiful rooms, countless amenities and wonderfully hospitable staff; I will return to see the final product. But my heart goes out to the workers who are trying their best with no resources to provide a safe and comfortable stay to even the least discerning of guests. I know this is an awful time. I admire the hotel trying to keep their awesome staff on the payroll. But I cannot imagine that the modest nightly rate they are charging is worth jeopardizing their guests' safety and experience.…
